I love Notre Dame because Notre Dame to me represents honest people who mess up but still try to give all they have. They believe in the good guys who give their best , and don't judge those who fail. Instead of judging, they try harder and fail again. They believe that the ultimate judge is left to a God. So they try again. And fail again. And try again. And keepm trying to do the right thing. That is my impression of Notre Dame.

"People who mess up?"

WTF is that about? 11 national championships and the 2nd most wins in college football is not "messing up."

I love NOTRE DAME because
  • WE are NOTRE DAME and NO ONE else IS.
  • WE don't give IN to TRENDS.
  • WE have TWO uniforms and on occasion a special THIRD (not FORTY-FRIGGIN-TWO).
  • OUR stadium ISN'T LITTERED with ADVERTISEMENTS. Nor does it have a CORPORATE SPONSOR.
  • No JUMBOTRON. No FANCY MOVING VIDEO RING between decks.
  • WE don't relax admissions standards in exchange for wins
  • WE have the greatest traditions in the game.
  • We inspire hatred from those who only wish their school could be half of what NOTRE DAME IS!
  • ACADEMICS are every bit as important as WINS
There are probably 1000 other things I could list but these came off the top of my head.

Yeah, it probably sounds like a back-handed compliment. I'll shed some light:

I was wearing an ND shirt in enemy territory and having some brewskies. One of the enemies asked why I was so high on Notre Dame and also mentioned something like ND thinks it is high and mighty. I said something like, nah, ND can mess up like the rest of us, but they don't stop there and moan about it. They try again and succeed more often than the rest. And then we had another brewski. And then I wrote the question on this forum.

Maybe I shouldn't drink and scribe.

NDgetty - thanks for the response. I'll use that next time. It sounds better than my real reason for liking ND when I was a kid - they had the coolest uniforms and I liked the way "Notre Dame" sounded.

Why do I love ND...

Well, for those of you who haven't been on campus, I can just say it's magical. There's a feeling in the air there, 24 hours a day. So much so that living there for 4 years doesn't diminish it at all.

To add to that, if the feeling on campus on an average day is magical, the feeling on a game day is nothing short of electric. People everywhere--enchanted--ND logos on everything, the marching band, the Glee Club, little kids throwing footballs badly to one another. Even in the off years (and this is certainly an off year), everyone is in awe of everything else.

Rankings aside, academics is the true number one at ND. Courses and professors are stimulating, challenging, and edifying.

Study abroad opportunities are AMAZING. I studied in Australia for five months at Notre Dame Australia, and it was the time of my life. I know other schools have abroad programs, but ND is making a serious push (a goal is to have all juniors study abroad for one semester).

Finally, Notre Dame students—both as alumni and as current students—are the best in the nation. They are more caring, more giving, and more in tune with what’s going on on campus and around the world than with any other university.

As you can probably tell, I could go on and on…

Now that I’ve written this, I missing being a student! :sigh:

My love of Notre Dame was one of those things passed down from father to son. Most of my uncles were big ND fans. I would love to sit and listen to them talk about train trips to ND back during Leahy and Laydens days. My hometowns Son of Italy would sponsor a bus trip to ND every year. Unfortunately when I became of age the trips stopped. I loved listening to the stories of the campus, bars, and guys running into Ara or players during the 3 or 4 days they were there. I go out every year now with my wife and daughter, who dreams as her father did of going to ND. My wife still does not get it how my dad and I recap the game every Sunday, sometimes we argue, sometime we agree. I love what it stands for, do it right, do it honest, do it the best you can.

Irish-Italian Catholic Hoosier so partly genetics. Two grandfathers, four uncles, my father, three brothers and multitudes of cousins all sitting in the living room cheering on the Irish is one of the strongest memories I have.

IU grad so who would YOU cheer for during football season?

I got accepted to ND but with three stairstep brothers heading to college right behind me, I had to go to a state school. But that acceptance letter is framed right next to my other diplomas.

Notre Dame is magical. College football always is better when Notre Dame is NOTRE DAME. No other school can claim that.

NOTHING compares to a fall Saturday afternoon in South Bend.

Other than beating Kentucky in Assembly Hall.

I think I better lay off the juice for now during my vacation. For some reason, this quote kinda choked me up. Thanks for the thought SouthernIrish. I bet your school was better because of you.
