Where's Walls?

What happened to Darren Walls? He starts off the season covering the best WR in the nation and then he just stops playing. I don't think I've seen him play in about the last 3 weeks. Does anyone have an answer for this?

Where's McNeil while were asking? thought we would see more of these two guys this year than we have. Guess with Richardson and Lambert playing fairly well, especially Richardson, could have something to do with it. I just thought with ND playing Nickel and some Dime coverage we would see these two more than we have.

I think maybe Charlie is trying to protect his confidence. You ask how benching him helps his confidence, let me try to explain my thoughts. He gave up some big plays against Purdue and sat the second half of that game and has hardly been seen since. Remember, in practice he goes up against two of the best in the country everyday. I know Lambert gave up some big plays against UNC, but I still think that him and Richardson are more consistent than Walls right now. When Charlie feels his is on their level and playing consistently against Jeff and Rheema in practice, I'm sure we'll see him again.

I'd sure like to see these guys out there in some of our easy win games. Army would be a good one, but I don't think they pass very much. Just good to get them on the field, similar to Aldridge.

He has dropped off the face of the earth since the Purdue game, hopefully he can get some time in the next 2 games

Damnit, I had to break my self imposed ban of the football board but Marv you hit the nail on the head. I watched Walls play in high school several times his jr. and sr year and I believed he wasn't going to be ready for the big time in Year 1. He looked in the back way to much and then made up for it becuase of his unreal speed. McNeil on the other hand basically shut down the best WR's in the country in the AAA game. Why hasn't he been given a chance like walls was. I trust in the coaches but if you are going to give walls a chance then McNeil should have one as well. There is a difference between track speed and game speed, I think McNeil has better game speed then Walls right now. Either way they'll both be real good in the long run but I just wish McNeil should have had a chance. Anyway, this will be my last post until I change my mind again. As ron burgandy would say... when in rome...

with Wooden being back it puts him back on the sidelines untill certian packages are needed

I don't know about Walls, but Richardson has been playing well. Except for Michigan and UNC, Lambert has been playing well. Ambrose Wooden is healthy, so I just don't think he's shown enough to be in there extensively. Otherwise, he would be in there. The best players play.

Walls is my favorite player and I would like to him to start, but I have to wait until next year for that. Richardson and Lambert are the starters and Wooden is #3 right now. Lambert moved up since the chart since the MSU game and replace Wooden as a starting CB. Wooden was hurt, so Walls was playing more and we were in the nickel and dime a lot in the first part of the season. We have not played the dime lately since the teams are not putting in 4 wrs and we mainly have been in the 4-3 or some nickel. Don't expect to see Walls or McNeil this week much or next since we will be playing option teams and in the 4-3.

Weis has praised Walls cover skills and even commented a few weeks back about not seeing him. He needs to be more physical, but we should see him in the USC game.

While you guys want Walls and McNeil on, they simply being outplayed by their upperclass counterparts at this point. They will have their time.

No question.

Lambert has improved and Richardson is solid. Wooden has rebounded pretty well from injury.

Should Wooden be due back for another year in 2007?

Wooden could come back for a 5th, only Richardson is done after this year. With Lambert stepping up, you've got 3 solid CBs ahead of the frosh. Like all the other positions, CB is getting deeper.

It would be interesting to see what Richardson could do with another year in the system. Teams don't throw his way much and he's turned into a very physical corner who plays well in space. He's come a long way in 3 years. Walls and McNeil will have their day. I don't think it will be this year though. We haven't been playing teams that like to spread the field lately.

Richardson was horrible in 2004. He took it up a level last year and this year he's playing himself into a draft spot.

He's really come a long way, indeed.

I'd like to see Wooden come back. Perhaps play some safety with Herring next year.

It really amazes me how far Richardson has come. I mean, to me, he was the microcosm of everything that was wrong under the previous regime. 2-star wide reciever, converted to CB, who didn't have much speed and got burned a lot. And that's pretty much what Notre Dame was 2 years ago.

But now, while he still doesn't have a ton of speed, he plays the game so smart, hits hard, and has pretty good hands to boot & can create turnovers, and will probly have a future as a decent role player on the next level.

Its so crazy to me that I can say that w/ confidence...I guess in a way Richardson's also the microcosm of everything that's right w/ the current regime. Get everything possible out of the talent you have through good coaching.

Wooden needs one more year. Richardson was horrible in '04. He's solid now. Lambert should be pretty good next year along with either Walls or McNeil or both.
