Before I start this I want everyone to know that I have always been a ND supporter and I will ALWAYS cheer for the Irish.

I am really beginning to wonder if Charlie will be the one to bring this team back. This is his third year and can you name ONE signature win that he has had? The offense was decent the first two years with Quinn running it and this year it has been just downright pathetic. The defense hasn't played well since he has been there and if anyone it has regressed even more this year. When you get blown out by 30+ points very week that is regression to me. I know he is playing a lot of younger players but I see other schools playing younger players too and they are still competetive and/or sucessfull too. Look at all the young players Florida & Ohio State (just two examples) are playing. They seem to be finding ways to win.
Charlie seems to be a good recruiter but I wonder if he will get production out of these players. I see other teams freshman & sophmores doing a lot better than what the Irish are showing me this year

I absolutely agree with this post 100% I'm NOT however going to say fire charlie just yet. If this team continues to get worse like they are now Then I will think that it might just be time for something new at Notre Dame. Because the longer we get blown out and lose the more and more people are going to transfer and drop their commitments. PLAIN AND SIMPLE! I would laugh at Notre Dame if they called me at this point and offered me a scholly.

I've been an ND fan for over 30 years and I've never seen a team play as bad as they're playing.

God only knows when it's going to get better. It definitely won't be this year. The way they're playing now, I highly doubt they'll even beat Duke or Stanford.

Yeah thats why I am predicting a 1-11 or 0-12 record. People say that Duke is one of the worst teams in CFB? Looks at the stats, that name belongs to ND.

I'm predicting 0-12. I'm just so disgusted how horrible they're playing on both sides of the ball.

Duke at least won a game this year!!

Things have got to change. I can't put my finger on just what does though. I figured CW was the coach to take ND to the NC. I'm still thinking he will.

The team has looked better each game, that's all you can ask for with young players. Wins will come in time, the team hasn't given up...as fans let's try not to as well.

As I said in an earlier post, I've been an ND fan for over 30 years. If I haven't given up by now, I never will.

Wont ever give up. But at least we are moving in the right direction. Bu never thought they would have started out this flat. But today there were some big steps forward. But please let's not lose to Duke. They have been a D1 doormat for as long as I can remember.

Listened to some of CW's presser and it sounded like he showed some emotion at halftime, maybe that is all they need to win. Saw USF play friday and that coach was all amped up and the team played off it. Does USF have more talent I don't know I just know they played at a high level and that is all I want from ND.

I want wins as much as you all do but like you all have said they are a young team.
I think they are improving somewhat each week. At least we are scoring some touchdowns now. Next year has got to be better.

we will get better and WIN once all these positive steps they've been taking fall together in one game (i.e. run game, pass game, limited penalties, D holding in the red zone).

it's only a matter of time in my opinion. They will sneak up on someone in the next 3-weeks for a very close game/or a win.

I second that. The Frosh LBs...WRs...RBs... sweet!

At halftime I was in utter despair....it couldn't have been any worse. Except for some really poor throws by Painter, it was Michigan all over again. I think the team hit rock bottom at that point. They were not competitive at ALL - no phase of the game was remotely impressive - save the sheer will power of Trevor Laws.

Then in the second half I found something, finally, to hang my hat on and to give me hope for the future. Golden Tate was a vision of heart and potential today...matching the efforts and leadership of Trevor Laws on the defense. The mere fact that the freshmen talent is showing itself as clearly the best part of this team so far (I include Clausen, Hughes and Kamara in that) is encouraging....for the future. I think that as long as I see this team build off of a strong first half with MSU, and a better second half with PU (we'll simply ignore the first half today at our peril) - that I can stomach the beating that USC will put on them Oct. 20. We may have 3 more tough weeks ahead, but I get the feeling that one of the next 3 teams is going to be surprised by an ND team that finally plays 60 minutes this year and gets a win.

Before the second half spark of life, I was doubting that ND could win 3 games this year. I now expect 5. That's still a depressing downgrade from a month ago - when I honestly believed 9 wins was possible and 10 would be an outside chance...but my hope was rescued in the second half effort of the team.

Can we hope that rock bottom was finally reached? I think so...

Wait a minute - was this thread started AFTER the game? 'Cause I think the answer to your question is "about 30 football minutes ago" ...

I started this thread at halftime. Although the second half was a little better, it was still awful tough to take. We get close and then the defense lets Purdue march down the field for another TD. When are we going to see some defense in the CW era? I can't think of a single game where the defense played "lights out" against a good opponent!

Okay, I didn't see that. The "D" has got a long way to go, for sure - though they turned in a pretty good second half. Be patient ...

Having lived in Tampa when football started at USF I can tell you that they are for real and pull alot of kids from the state of Florida to that school. Head coach is soought after by many teams to include the NFL, but he is very dedicated to putting the Bulls on the map.

The team has played better. Yesterday's second half was the best 30 minutes to date. Two things we all have to remember is 1) the team is young, not just in age but college football experience. As the saying goes when buying a car, its the mileage not the age. Our Jr. and soph. have very little playing team. Obviously the fr. have none. Once they get more and more playing time the game will slow down, they will realize their responsibilities and we will be better. 2) We are not playing any DII or bottom feeders from non-BCS conferences. GT just beat the no. 13 team Clemson, PSU is a few turnovers away from being undefeated, Michigan has rebounded nicely, MSU took the no. 7 team to the last seconds of the game and Purdue is a veteran team. So, yes it would have been nice to win 2 or 3 of these, but we did not and we have to move on. Changes coaches every 3 - 5 years will not bring us a NC any faster. What it will do is drop us down to the level of others schools that have sold their souls for football glory. That is exactly what the media wants us to do.

whoever said 1-11 or 0-12, that is pathetic. Look at how much we have improved, playing all FRESHMAN and SOPHOMORES. we go 4-8, maybe 5-7 if we are lucky.

Call me a Kool-Aid drinker if you want, but after yesterday I could see us stealing the next two and going 6-6. Heck, after what UW did last night I could see us putting a scare into SC ... well, maybe not. Wouldn't it be a riot, though, to see Mark May's head explode if we win six and go to a bowl game?

I watched alot of football this weekend and I saw that other teams have young guys playing and they play fast with a I'm going all out kind of mind set. ND has young guys that go out and play but it looks like they are afraid in trusting what they are seeing, can someone tell me if it looked the same way to you.

Our 2004 class
Darrin Bragg QB **
David Wolke QB **
Justin Hoskins RB ***
Darius Walker RB ***
Chauncey Incarnato OL ***
John Kadous OL ***
Justin Brown DE **
Brandon Nicolas DE ***
Ronald Talley DE ***
Abdel Banda LB **
Maurice Crum LB ***
Tregg Duerson DB **
Leo Ferrine DB **
Junior Jabbie DB ****
Terrail Lambert DB ***
Anthony Vernaglia ATH ****

The only one playing exceptionally well the other day was Jabbie. Crum had two tackles. A severe lack of senior/junior leadership. Can you blame that on CW, or the talent that the two classes have. That's for you to decide.
Our freshman and sophomores are getting better. The offensive line has gotten better, only two sacks given up (although Purdue's defense isn't exactly what we faced in the first four games).
As far as the defense goes, only Laws is playing at a high level. The others are probably playing to their potential. This will improve in time with better talent and the young guys beefing up a bit.
The LB are slow, undersized, and lack in talent. Wade and Smith show signs of becoming good, but they need time to develop.
Basically, we got what we have, and it isn't going to change much this year. This is why I think it's important to stop griping about what we aren't, and play the young guys so that next year they aren't wide-eyed. Speed kills, and we have little on defense. The 3-4 demands fast guys that can hit, I see us playing at a much higher level in two years.
Comparing us to top 10 teams, when our senior/junior talent and leadership is non-existent, is a waste of energy.
As long as we take baby steps each week and the young guys improve, all will be fine.

This team is getting better week by week.

People need to realize that Weis has yet to have a complete team that he can count on, the last two years, he's had starters that could play with anybody, but hasn't had any kind of depth to speak of. This year half the team are new starters, but also the back ups have no to very little experience. We need to give Weis the benefit of the doubt, because he surely hasn't forgotten how to coach, just too many ineperienced players on the field at the same time.

On a different note, is it me or did Washington try to look like ND with those uniforms, other than the purple which looked a little darker than usual. I don't remember ever seeing those exact uniforms before.

Also for the Ty guys that want to compare Washington to ND, especially after the close game with USC. UW will not get the same play from USC as ND would get from them. Washington is just another game for them, but ND is a rival game and they will give all out effort for this game.
