I think a lot depends on when Parcels retires. If he were to retire after this year or after next year, I'm not sure that Charlie's name would come up for the Cowboys job. He hasn't accomplished enough for the Cowboys to hire him and if they were going to go for someone that hasn't done it yet, they probably promote from within.

Now, if Parcels were to retire say after Charlie wins a NC here, that's a different story.

If Charlie should someday venture into the NFL, and that's a big if, it will not be to a franchise with an owner that wants to be involved in daft decisions, signing whacko free agents, etc., like Dallas owner Jerry Jones.

He will head to a franchise where he can call all the shots, and where the owner stays in the owner's box, not the sideline, and only shows up in the locker room after the game to say congrats on the win. Dallas is not that type place.

Anyone that thinks that Weis will go to the NFL anytime soon I suggest you do this.

Go up to the "Official Resources" tab on top, go down to the ATHLETICS tab and highlight the football option and watch Weis's press conference from a couple days ago. After watching a segment of that conference you will not be worried about him leaving ND anytime soon.

My feeling is that he has the SB rings, and it would take a monster contract to get him back in the NFL. I can see him being here for a long time. I don't worship him or anything, but I think he's the perfect coach for the job.

I agree that it would take a monster contract to get him to the NFL. But I honestly don't think he will leave. I think he is a highly intelligent man that knows a good deal when he sees one.

Notre Dame went above and beyond to attract and retain Weis. How many coaches in the history of college football have had a 10 year contract? And of the coaches that have a 10 year contract (I think there might be 1 or 2 others), none got that deal in their first year.

ND saw their man, quickly assessed he as the guy long term for the job and then made a long term commitment to Charlie and his family. Weis is set for life. He's got a long term commitment/contract, he is financially set for life, his children will get a free education at a prestigious university, and he has been empowered to go after the recruits he needs to win. He isn't going to get that type of commitment from any NFL team or any other university. He'd be a fool to leave in my opinion (and he's no fool).

I just read a story the other day where he said he has no interest in ever going back to the NFL....ever.

He's happy, his wife is happy and his kids are happy. He's coaching his alma mater, which is a dream come true for most coaches.

Including Charlie Weis.

Why wouldn't you? You can have whoever you want, so long as the kid can read, write and has no felonies.

In the NFL Draft, you don't have any of those options.

This was my worry when ND offered him a 10 year contract after going 5-2. What more can ND offer him? They have already rewarded him as if he won a NC.

So hopefully, he will show that he is worthy of the wonderful deal that ND offeed him. He is doing a very good job now, but let's hope complacency doesn't set in.

With Charlie, I don't foresee complacency setting in. I believe that he views ND as THE place to be for him and his family. I truly believe that he views a "contract" for what it is and that he will honor what the contract states. We pretty well know that he will coach well enough to get enough wins each year to satisfy the naysayers!

i don't see why the Cowboys job would be more appealing than the Giants job, especially considering Charlie grew up a half hour from the meadowlands. It's all irrelevant though, he's not going anywhere. He knows winning ND a NC would give him legendary status and the NFL only has potential for disapointment.

I am not worried about it right now. Charlie is a type of man who is a goal setter. His next goal is to put together a dynasty here at ND. He won't even think of doing something else until that happens. However, he is also a family man and being one myself the decisions of a father is based on his kids and wife. If Charlie leaves for the NFL (which he won't), it'll be when the New England job opens up (which won't be for a long, long time).

Parcells and Weis do NOT enjoy a friendly relationship, and I can imagine that Jones will want the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys to be one of "Parcells' guys". During the Jets/Belichick/Parcells debacle a few years back, Weis was stripped of offensive playcalling duties by Parcells. BP would not endorse Weis, whatsoever.

When Belichick leaves the Pats, Kraft will most definitely put on the Ritz to try to pull Weis to Foxboro. Belichick and Kraft will want continuity in the organization, and want one of BB's guys taking over. At the head of that list was Mangini, but he left for the NYJ (which is why the BB and Mangini relationship frosted over). The other names at the top of that list will be Weis and Crennell.

So if he ever leaves for the NFL, you can bet the house that he'll be arriving in Foxboro, Massachusetts. But he's going to be in South Bend a long, long time.
