I've seen several folks talking about the number of scholarships available for 2013. Before today, I was under the impression we had 26 total available, likely holding 3-5 back next year for 5th years, bringing the actual 2013 haul to 21-23. With the 2 losses today, assuming we are now at 28, likely taking 23-25. Can someone confirm. Also, explain the EE implications and rules. I saw someone say UGA would likely take 35 with EEs. Geeesh.
Anyone have fact and data, willing to illustrate as a nice math equation for all of us?

The staff was looking for a class of 23. With Roberson, Carrico and likely Prestwood out, this puts the team at 26. But those numbers change constantly.

There are 28 available scholarships left for 2013. so you have 9 remaining spots after you include the 19 commits we have so far. I say we take 4-6 more 2013 commits and whatever is left, we take 5th years.

As for EE rules... You know how you are only allowed 25 per class? Well, technically Notre Dame can get more than 25 (if they wanted to).

Lets say ND wants to sign 27 2013 recruits... They can put 2 recruits on Early Enroll which would count toward the 2012 recruiting class (We had 17 commits in 2012, so we have room). Leaving 25 commits for the 2013 recruiting class and staying within the rules set by the NCAA.

So no limiation on EEs? Also, where's the WJ spreadsheet you mentioned in the other thread?

I think ND admissions doesn't want any more than 5 early enrollees.

I expect one more, maybe two more gone by end of season. Not wishing it, just think we will have a defection or two as soon as the depth chart becomes clear, plus one during or immediately following the season.

I'd love to have some EEs at LB and CB.

Can someone point me to the WJ spreadsheet. Hopefully WJ has taken a crack at updating with all the recent activity.

Well, you're in luck. Both Anzalone and Mattingly plan to enroll early.

Rock and Roll. Wish Jaylon would as well, but think I read somewhere his HS did not allow... ugh. He's ready anyway, but would love it if he had a semester to settle in before FB season.

Cam due to the injury. He said he's just not able to compete like he wants to. Prestwood left for personal reason. BK can't comment, although when asked if there is a chance for return.... he said that they weren't to the level of conversation yet. Carrico, foot never healed properly from surgery. Medical scholie just like Cam

Welch = gone for this year, gimpy the next
Carrico+Cam = gone from FB for good, still getting great educations, and still IRISH!
Prestwood = Gone home with personal issues. Reason unknown, likely grades. Hopfully comes back!
Spond = Likely concussed. Assume he will be tested for a week or so. Hopefully is safe, clears the cob webs, and returns soon!

Can someone give a shot at what the number might be. Would be inteteresting to see a break down bucketing 1) current number, 2) possible 5th years, 3) possible decommits, 4) injuries 5)possible transferes, etc..

We currently have 17 freshman, 22 sophomores, and 18 juniors on scholarship (57). We also have 22 verbals for the 2013 class, which brings us to 79. There are 8 seniors with an extra year of eligibility (Wood, J. Golic, Watt, Z. Martin, Stockton, Calabrese, Fox, and Tausch), of which 5 have been major contributors throughout their careers. Assuming Wood bolts for the draft and we bring back the remaining 4 major contributors (Watt, Z. Martin, Calabrese, and Fox), that brings us up to 83, which would only leave 2 spots in the 2013 class (presumably for Redfield and AQM).

Mattingly is expected to take other visits, and James may not qualify academically, so both of those current verbals are unlikely to stick. That frees up another 2 scholarships.

Tate Nichols is the most likely to take a medical, as his career has been hampered by several knee injuries. There's also speculation that Hegarty's mysterious medical condition may end his career as well. Let's call this one possible extra scholarship (50/50).

And then there's the Fox v. Calabrese debate. I expect that the staff would like to bring back both, but is willing to part with Calabrese if they need room for one last elite 2013 recruit.

So we have at least 2 more spots; 4 more spots is likely; 5 is possible; and even 6 is doable if the staff hits a homerun with recruiting down the stretch.

Edit: It looks like the decommitments of Mattingly and James are official now, so we have at least 4 more spots, 5 is likely, and 6 is possible if we win the recruiting lottery.
