Whats Marc Tyler thinking?

I just saw that USC already has a verbal from 5 star running back Broderick Green this year, and with last years RB recruits Stafon Johnson 5 star, Emmanuel Moody 4 star, Stanely Havili 4 star, and 3 star Kenny Ashley, the USC RB depth chart should be pretty much full. I really don't understand what Marc is thinking by going to USC when Notre Dames depth chart is much thiner.

I dunno with Walker, Aldridge, Prince those are three pretty solid backs with 2 of those guys with 4 years left.

not that it matters that much, but Havili is a FB.

I don't want him here very much anyway... and to be honest, I'd be dissappointed if he committed to ND.

I don't know if I would want him that much ethier. He sounds like a punk and there is other RBs that I would take over him. Like King or Clay. But I guess I would take him If he did come to ND.

Truthfully I'd rather have Armando Allen but it looks like we have a better chance with Tyler then any other RB.

Dude check out his myspace.. I don't know if you have, but it pretty much made up my mind about him.

I thought there were some myspace sites for Marc set up by USC fans and that they weren't really his site. He has some private site and you need to join myspace to view it.

That is correct... and his MySpace isn't bad. He is the typical high school guy IMO.

Looks like he'll be an opponent as opposed to Irish. Too bad.

Now is the time to cement Robert Hughes in, then get Tez Wilson and Miles Stroter. Focus in on Caleb King and Armando Allen.

What Tyler's thinking:

1) Friends, Family - He has millions of friends in the LA area and his family as well.
2) Weather - Ever been to SoCal? I have... it makes Florida look dreary.
3) Lifestyle - Again, ever been to SoCal? Movie stars, parties, etc.

He probably isn't thinking long term. He's thinking about being 17 and enjoying himself and quite frankly, there isn't anything wrong with that. Not to mention, USC has put several backs into the draft in the past several years.

Also, growing up on the West Coast, I think it would be safe to say he grew up a USC/UCLA fan and dreamed about wearing that jersey. So when he picks USC, lets just congratulate the kid and move on to the next recruit.

I'd rather have someone that wants to be here then someone that doesn't.

I don't know about that. College football is not that big out in Cali. LA only follows its teams when they are winning, hence the USC "fans" that appeared out of nowhere, but can't name who the coach was before Pete Carroll. They all think it was "that guy from the Rams," even though it wasn't.

But anyways, half the people in CA are not from CA. There are probably more Big Ten games shown out here than Pac-10 games. That is because there are a lot, I mean a lot, of midwestern transplants.

I myself grew up a Miami fan, and most of my friends growing up were ND, Michigan or Oklahoma fans. Did not know any USC, UCLA, Cal or Stanford fans. But I grew up in NorCal. So I would assume, that there were some in LA who considered UCLA or USC their "second favorite team."

I think its because the Cali schools don't really have a following that they can't lock down high school players like UTexas does with Texas kids, or Michigan does with Michigan kids, the big 3 in Fla., etc. etc.

The one big factor though, is that Cali kids would rather go to a team that has warm weather. I won't lie, we're afraid of the cold, and by that I mean below 65 degrees.

IMO, I think Tyler just wants to get out of the shadow of Jimmy Clausen, have his own limelight at FUSC.

I agree with nearly everythigng you said, except:
"He probably isn't thinking long term"

USC is an excellent school which seems to be sending a number of kids to the NFL.

US News (to be taken with a small grain of salt) ranks ND #18 and USC at #30 of top National Universities. ND is "better" but not by that much...

He's not your typical SoCal yuppie. He is an athlete. His dad played in SoCal at UCLA. Big difference.

Well i'm glad most people are posting that they dont want him or would rather have so and so because this way IF he does choose USC you won't be shocked and let down. I however, still believe that he is coming to ND because he wants to win National Championships and take his game to the next level so he can someday play in the NFL and I think we know and he knows that the best place for that to happen is going to be in South Bend.

By long term, I simply mean education and yes, I do take US News with a grain of salt. At the end of the day, if you put a Notre Dame degree beside a USC degree, I fully believe the Notre Dame degree will carry more weight.

Outside of that, you're correct.

it depends where you live. i live in cali and usc is more impressive out here. nd is a better institution but not that much better. dont let your passion for football and our rivalry with sc blind your ability to acknowledge their acedmic stature.

I'm not.

Even when I lived in California, SC was never considered an academic institution. It was Stanford, UCLA and then several of the Cal schools including Berkeley, Poly, then finally USC. If you're not the premier institution in your state, and USC isn't, then it doesn't compare to Notre Dame that is the best high education instituion in Indiana, with Rose Hulman Institute of Technology following right behind.

I'm not sure I agree with you, Illustrious Web Master. I don't think you can equate being the Best School in Cali with the Best School in Indiana. That's like saying the best opera singerin Paris is equivalent to the best opera singer in Warsaw.

These Cali schools are better than ND & any other school in Indiana: Stanford, UC Berkeley, Cal Tech, UCLA.

That's right: ND would be the fifth best school in California.

Please back that statement up. I can see Stanford and Berkley neck and neck with ND but it depends on the criteria you are looking at. Fifth best is pushing it a little to far.

Stanford and Berkeley are equal if not slightly better when you consider extra-curriculars, but not UCLA or Cal-Poly.

To think UCLA is Notre Dame's equal is foolish.

Cal Tech's only peer is MIT though.
