I realize that doing what you describe would provide a marginal benefit, but I prefer to not even have the option of spending too much. I know people that have started with the above attitude and were $10K in credit card debt 3 years later.

My parents also never had credit cards, so I guess it was just ingrained in me from a young age to stick to debit.

Yeah, I suppose self awareness is good.

I just see credit cards as a modern version of a check register (like Wiz said). It's a cash management tool if used correctly. Literally every time you make a decision involving your money, there is the option of spending too much. I know people without a credit card that got into major debt. My outlook is that credit cards don't create debt, people create their debt.
