The UND website put up a nice article here on Armando Allen's life and career at Notre Dame. It's nice to see the human side of these guys; even nicer that the university puts such a priority on it.

So, I pose to you kind readers: what do you think embodies a Notre Dame man?

Well I took my boy ( 3 y.o) to the game and at the player walk he got a high five from every player that seen him. Then this morning prior to leaving South Bend we see Darrin Walls at Perkins eating breakfast. He had a big smile and signed the newspaper clip of himself for us and was very nice about it. Great experience with the players this weekend and reminds me of why I love ND so much! ND doesn't just have great football players, they have great men.

Not all of the players are catholic but Notre Dame is a catholic university with about 85% of the student body being catholic.

there are a good percentage of non catholic...eg. toma and manti...

And not just among members of the football team and its staff. The faculty and student body are not homogenous.

One of most rabid ND fans I met in the two years living in Holy Cross Hall [RIP] was a Jewish kid from NYC – and he was one helluva good guy, kinder and more accepting than some of the staunch Catholics.

My favorite Theology prof was a Southern Methodist. ND is even a warm, welcoming place for "lapsed" Catholics such as me. I didn't attend Mass once in my four years there in spite of twelve years of Parochial school.

One need not be Catholic to be moral, ethical or spiritual.

I'm not Catholic, but I don't consider myself to be any less of a Notre Dame man because of it.

A Notre Dame "man" who got it [absorbed it through our pores at the University] is above all a "spiritual" man. That is what dshans is reminding us about: the difference between "religious" and "spiritual". A spiritual man walks the path concerned first for others, not himself--the gospel-of-love way. A true Notre Dame man also cares enough about the other person that he is willing to stand up and do the right thing. That's what Southwest is telling us with his great phrase "warrior spirit". And, bragging or not, the Notre Dame man is gifted and well educated and sees a bigger picture. To whom much has been given, much is requested. How many of you guys got the twenty gold pieces rather than just one?
