Weis' High Risk Decisions

Part of me likes this about Weis but I think it has possibly accounted for both losses. Michigan game, choosing to pass on 2nd and 3rd down. Id be a hypocrite to criticize him. I was at the game and me and another ND fan both applauded him for trying to win the game versus trying to "hold on" while it was going on.

Versus SC we had a fairly long field goal chance but went for it and failed. Momentum shifted and who knows.

Just joking man. I am not going to get into the UM game because that topic has been beaten to death.

As far as the SC game goes, saying he passed on a field goal that was inside of Tausch's range simply isnt accurate. Weis was told by Polian that with the breeze it was out of his range. Charlie said he would have rather kicked the field goal but didnt have a choice. And obviously you cant blame Charlie's high risk decisions on a blocked extra point.

We could argue whether or not Weis should have tried the kick, all day long. But Tausch's position coach, whom I trust over any sportswriter, says it was NOT within Tausch's range. If it's within Tausch's range, then that changes the whole dynamic of the debate.

just like the old saying, if both those passes are complete in the michigan game and he converts the 4th down, everyone would applaud but as we know both failed and now he has to be faced with the back lash.

its like the old him though who would go for every 4th and short, example the washington game. so it will always be high risk high reward.

I also dont know why the writer lumped in the missed PAT. One has nothing to do with the other. I think if this wasnt Weis were talking about the issue doesnt come up. The bottom line to me is that the pissed PAT made the field goal decision irrelevant.

If we want to go into coaching, Weis depantsed Carroll on that fake field goal. A few missed/blown coverages was really the difference.

I think everyone loves when they succeed and hates when they don't. A lot has to do with percentages and probabilities in my mind. Like in poker, if I have a 30 percent chance of getting my cards and the pot pays me 3 to 1, it's worth calling. Obviously, football is different, but if you can make a yard on the ground a certain percentage of the time, it might be worth it. I'm not a huge fan of the jump ball in the endzone, but percentage-wise it seems to work for us.

No Doubt, we put up over 20 points per game, 27 on USC. Obviously its not our offense that has issues. You've been saying this all year, we have slow LB's and it showed the most against USC. You should write Tenuta, he doesn't get it.

If ifs and butts were cocks and nuts we all be getting gang banged. If charlie hadnt called those plays that way, yea maybe we win. maybe not. charlie is calling a good offense this year. defensively, play calling has been so so IMO. but the play calling offensively is aggressive and putting points on the board (most pts against USC last year and this year). CW plays to win, he doesnt play not to lose (cough cough tressel). i admire him for it.
