I hope the kid does well...

I have always liked Phil when he was with the Giants.

He's a Jersey kid. Hmmmmm...

Weis was with the Giants from 1990-1992. Interesting connection here.

Phil has said he has had more time to work with Matt than Chris. Could be that the younger brother is more polished. That is the case the majority of times, more often than not.

Simms and Clausen are already getting looks.

Gotta love proactive recruiting.

I live in NJ. Two towns away from his high school. I saw him play two games that were on tv locally here and he is not someone we want coming to ND. Trust me fellas, i coached football for 8 years and i can tell you he doesnt have the goods. He goes to the same high school that brian toal of boston college went to and this school is a POWERHOUSE!! That's the only reason his stats are any good, he plays with an entire team of D1 recruits, that and his name get him some looks. Forget about him guys.

He was their starting QB as a soph, he must be pretty good. Don Bosco Prep is some big time football. Not surprised at all Weis is courting him. Weis has big ties with the Giants(better hope Coughlin does well, cause that is the only possible pro team Weis would leave for) anyone see Mara's grandson on the sidelines during the ND-washington game. No way Simms goes to Texas, Phil was prettry ticked off with the coaching Chris received there. Can't blame him, Mack Brown squanders so much talent.

Phil loves Weis, praises him every chance he gets.

If we do sign this kid, he better be able to win the big one. Chris sure in the heck could not.

What are things that he does that qualify him as not having the goods?

It was unfair for Chris to receive all the blame for that. It's pretty clear now that Brown is the one who can't win the big games. Chris actually regressed each year under Brown, went from looking like the number 1 pick overall, to a 4th round pick.

Alot of rumors that Phil regretted not sending Chris to Tennesse where he would've had Cutliffe for awhile.

as a die-hard Giants fan, I can't help but get a little interested about the possibility of the son of my favorite QB coming to play ball at South Bend. I love it when there's any connection between the Giants and Notre Dame (see Mark Bavaro).

If the kid has the goods or not, I don't think it matters much since it looks like ND is gonna be pretty deep at QB for years to come. Although, as someone already mentionned, living in Jersey and knowing what a powerhouse Don Bosco is up there in the North, I can't believe the kid started as a sophomore and has no talent.

First of all , has no movement in the pocket at all. He's been sacked numerous times. I've seen 3 games so far and i"ve yet to see him throw 1 accurate long pass. He just throw quick outs and slants and their WR's do all the work. Most importantly though, he has an extremely low release and the ball gets tipped or batted down. I swear to you fellas this kid will be a D1 bust. Not to mention that he is a terrible student. I doubt he could even get in to ND. I think an sec school will take him, maybe tennesse.

how do you know what his grades are like? Chris was offered by ND if i'm not mistaken, and even had them in his top 5. Phil Simms is one of the most intelligent guys around. I doubt he has poor grades, maybe your right but i doubt it...

I dont know his grades specifically, but i manage a resturant and one of my servers is a senior at don bosco. We talk about football all the time, and HE told me that matt is lazy and his father has 2 tuders for him. So thats where i got my info from. Maybe its just hear-say but im not making anything up.

Dealing with high school kids isn't an exact science. They are, after all, children.

Chris Simms would have been better served going somewhere else other than Texas. Having Major Applewhite there, who was born and raised in the state, didn't help matters any. Neither did showing up as a frosh for move in day in a damn limo.

Again, if Weis and Vaas see something, I've gotta trust it. But I also believe anyone that has seen this kid play in person. I, obviously, have not.

Good info, Absolute.

After watching his brother Chris struggle through his whole career at UT, I don't care how good this kid is. We already has 2 incredible QBs lined up and we're going after Claussen. If we don't get him, we don't really need another QB, b/c either D. Jones and/or Z. Frazer will be redshirted, so they will practically be in the year as Jimmy Claussen.

Baffling.

By this rationale, who would want Jimmy Clausen then? Casey and Rick didn't exactly set the world on fire.

So because his brother had a rough go at another school three years ago, we'll discredit him no matter how good he is?

Wow.

Weis has already said he wants at least 1 QB each year maybe 2. These guys are expendable. They risk getting hurt every play and it is a rare season that they're not banged up. Personally I am always nervous about Quinn getting hurt. Without him we might have a rough time. You can't have too many QBs. Anybody see the NY Jets yesterday?

Looked at film of him today.

His team is back in the NJ state title game.

Threw 3 TD, 3 INT in the semifinals. He looks like a kid that would really need to cut back on mistakes and handle pressure a lot better. Righty as opposed to his lefty brother.

Mechanically, he is superior due to his family ties I'm sure.

Someone to keep tabs on....

i want jimmy clausen!

Yeah, so does everyone else this side of Sri Lanka State and Moscow A&M.

Clausen sounds like a lot of high maintenance, someone that might fit it better in a school where the players are celebrities more than student athletes.

I don't know if Weis will want two guys in this 2007 class or just one, but they've got to keep their options open. Jimmy Clausen is coming with a lot of baggage full of hype.

I don't doubt his talent, but the intangibles worry me.

The father worries me. Not that Weis couldn't handle him, but the distraction can be a pain anyway. I'd still love to get him, though.

Intangibles or not, If we can get Claussen Weis will get him. I have not seen any vidioes of him but the writeups are awesome. He sounds like the Second Coming. Having said that I can remember Powlus too. As good as he was he could not bring the NC home.

Jiggs, you could be right. This guy has got to fit into the ND mold or forget it! We don't need any prima donna's ( or their Fathers).

I've seen film of Clausen.

He's good BigDon. Make no mistake about that. He's good. Definitely ahead of Simms.

There are some other good ones out there, though. Clausen would have to adapt to ND, not the other way around. His courtship is really going to be interesting.

No player has had this much hype in a while.

I think it will come down to the U of Spoiled Children and Bel Air Academy.

Will Smith was a stud hoops player at BAA. Grew up in West Philadelphia on he playgrounds.
