Weis calls out Carroll

Hannah Storm just reported that Weis suggested that Pete Carroll is living with a grad student out in Malibu. Carroll responded to the report saying it is "irresponsible. I don't know why he is even talking about me" Storm, a Notre Dame alum, said this was first reported on Irish Illustrated and was part of the recent invitation only interview with Weis.

All I have to say is wow. Charlie really is going out guns blazing.

CW was sold out here guys. He did a sit down interview with a few select media members, a long interview. It really is a fascinating read.

Anyways, OFF THE RECORD, he told them the story about Petey (I heard this rumor from a ND guy I met who lives next door to Petey in Hermosa Beach; he's been cheating on his wife and things are NOT good in the Petey household; I even wrote about it in the members only forum here a month ago). Apparently the guys from Irishillustrated wrote about it anyways. Completely screwed CW. Mike Frank from ISD didn't touch it in his article.

So now CW looks like a rat to the national media, when it was not even supposed to be on the record...

Charlie took a parting shot at Carroll

Charlie took a parting shot at Carroll

Report: Charlie Weis snipes at Pete Carroll, who denies it - ESPN

Former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis reportedly took a shot at USC's Pete Carroll in an online interview published Saturday, and Carroll isn't happy about it.

Weis, fired at Notre Dame last week, was asked by IrishIllustrated.com, a site devoted to covering Notre Dame sports, if he is "frustrated" by how he's portrayed as opposed to Carroll.

According to the interview transcript from IrishIllustrated.com senior editor Tim Prister, Weis responded: "Let me ask you this question: You guys know about things that go on in different places. Was I living with a grad student in Malibu, or was I living with my wife in my house? You could bet that if I were living with a grad student here in South Bend, it would be national news.

"He's doing it in Malibu and it's not national news. What's the difference? I don't understand. Why is it OK for one guy to do things like that, but for me, I'm scrutinized when I swear. I'm sorry for swearing; absolve my sins."

Weis was referring to a 2006 "60 Minutes" profile which showed him swearing and caused a minor stir, but the root of his reference to Carroll's alleged living arrangement was unclear. Carroll is married with three children and a grandchild.

Carroll, contacted by the Los Angeles Times on Saturday night, said: "It's untrue, it's irresponsible and it's incredible he'd be talking about me like that," Carroll said of Weis.

Weis was speaking to five handpicked reporters in South Bend, Ind., at Hannah and Friends, the nonprofit organization founded by Weis and his wife Maura designed to help children and adults with special needs. Hannah is one of Weis' children.

Weis was fired after Notre Dame finished 6-6 this season. He was 35-27 in five seasons, winning just one bowl game during his tenure.

Carroll's USC team finished its regular season Saturday with a 21-17 loss to Arizona. The Trojans were 8-4.

Seems like sour grapes since we never beat him with Weis, as much as I dislike USC.

Good for Weis! In fact he has a great point! They have scrutinized up and down non stop! That is not fair!

Didn't ESPN just give USC and poodle a feel good story about some kid who was going blind?

Now everyone can see who the poodle and USC really are!

Am I correct in assuming it is a female grad student? Now that would be news if it were not.

Another reason to hate the media. Something that was not to be published, just talking man to man, off the record. And the douche bags at irishillustrated go and put it in print.

Media outlets blow. All of them. Except for FOX news...... i like them.

If Brian Kelly had done this people would be saying he was not fit to coach at ND.

Had done what? Cheated on his wife multiple times or calling someone out for cheating on their wife several times?

The second being Something he didnt mean to do through the media, but it got leaked from someone charlie trusted.

Do people here not understand the meaning of NDinLA's off the record post about charlie?

I think it sounds like exactly what it was reported to be; an off the record expression of some frustration at how the media has reported on the negatives of his tenure. Take the backlash against his wife, son, and daughter. I can imagine that Weis partially blames all of the negative reporting, for whipping people into a frenzy that caused them to lash out at his family. He probably was being very honest. From the way he worded it, I would imagine that he didn't "divulge" Carroll's alleged affair to them. It sounded like he was aware that they already knew about it, and he was just saying, "If that were me, do you think it would not be a headline everywhere?"

i agree with you here. while it was a douchey thing to say, he got thrown under the bus by these "journalists".

as if it wasn't clear already, the HC search and now the weis firing has really shown the true colors of most reporters today. no due diligence, no reliable sources, no respect for the traditional rules, and double standards galore. if he really said this off the record, it makes me sad to see him get kicked while he's down.

Irish Illustrated...drop thier services like a champion

Irish Illustrated...drop thier services like a champion

If it were off the record...Irish Illustrated should be banned from campus, and all staff and players going forward...if I were the new coach and/or the administrattion...I'd lock them out...to me that is a MONSTER violation of trust and journalisitic integrity...a) for repeating an off the record comment in print; b) for failing to report something they clearly must have already known about until they had a patsy to hang it on, and one of our own at that; c) for taking an assumption (it was Petey) and putting it out for consumption as news, again CW never said it was Petey...they filled in the blanks and hung it on CW

I say who cares, what CW said was true, good for him. The thing that sucks is they turn it around and make Charlie look bad.

Just another example of why gossiping is not the correct thing to do. I also have no clue why you would trust someone in the media to not report that.

Weis wasn't gossiping, though. If you read the quote, he clearly says, "You guys know about things that go on in other places."

He never "outed" Pete for his infidelity, he just referred to what appears to be a well known situation. I don't think it was classless or distasteful, OR gossiping. I think these reporters used Weis' words on the subject to finally run with the story. If it turns out to be false, then they probably plan to fall back on, "Hey!! We were just reporting what someone else told us."
