good read. but the guy at the end irritated me. why does someone always have to make ty's firing about race? christ, he couldnt recruit that well, and he had about a 500 ave. granted charlies isnt much better now but most of his losses came from one year with ty;s guys.

The Ty comment bothered me also. As an African American, I feel that race may have played small part in his termination. But then I have to ask myself, "How many other instituions have even given an African American the opportunity to be a Head Coach?" Then I have to wonder what is more racist, Ty's firing or the horrible African American graduation rates at other top football programs? So when I hear fans of other schools brand ND as racist, I wonder why these fans don't call out the Ohio State's, Florida's, USC's and LSU's of the world. How can these institutions continue to make millions off these athletes and fail to educate them? So although ND isn't perfect, it is head and shoulders above most programs.

i honestly didn't like the article. the examples for some of the points were a stretch and talking about the la market imploding with usc football was weak. not all of la rides the usc football train. most people are more into the dodgers. of course people are on the bandwagon but its not as big as people claim. it really just sounded like someone whining about usc winning by breaking rules. i dont care how they win, let the ncaa worry about that. i only care about nd winning. usc had nothing to do with how bad we were last year. we play by the rules and still get the recruits we need to win a championship. so as long as we're winning the right way that's all that matters.

I hate U$C as much if not more than most fans, but all these articles trashing them seem like sour grapes from ND fans. If we had beaten them recently, who would bring this up? Wins heal all wounds.

I thought the article was funny but mostly i didnt like it.The way that usc runs their program upsets me just as much as the next person, but im so tired of ND fans getting into pissing matches with their fans.I am the biggest irish fan in the world and always will be no matter whar our record is,but when we start saying things like "I hate usc" or we trash talk them to try and prove our superiority(on or off the field) I feel like it takes something away from us. We as Irish fans pride ourselves in the class and upright leadership of the university and then turn around and write articles like Dixon did.It is beneath us to do so.We are the Irish, we have nothing to prove through slamming usc.Lets take the high road ND fans.

Everyone was bothered by the Ty comment. He had his chance. Unfortunately it was during a time that ND was looking for a "messaih" and he didn't fit the bill. Had nothing to do with race and I'm tired of hearing the argument.

As far as bashing USC. It is below us. But in the same. I would love for the rest of the world to come to their senses and see the bigger picture of USC football and how it is degrading to the sport. How they break the rules and cheapen the idea that all things are equal on the gridiron and great wins come from great effort, not great cheating. But this article is almost degrading to ND. I don't want to stoop to their level. I pride myself on being better than that. On winning within the perameters of the sport and the NCAA regulations.

If someone can write an article that is nationally publicized that is not tied to Notre Dame that still enlightens readers to how USC, bends and best, the rules to acheive their success then I am all for it. But I don't want a hugely pro ND fan writing articles citing how USC is not ND. We know! We're ND fans for a reason, and we know why we aren't USC.

People berate us for being "holier than thou." But ND has a tradition of excellence second to none, and a football program that is so legendary that the fans span the world. We're not holier than thou, we're just that damn good.

Exactly. Is it really classy dwelling on all of your rivals problems all the time? He's right we need to take the high road and start representing Notre Dame better as fans.

I agree in part but I must touch on that....

I live just outside of LA born and raised and that's a strech in my opinon... the Dodger thing is RIGHT now... very loyal fans what is crazy is how the same exact people are with the Fake show and the Trojans... growing up here during ND's run of 11 straight over SC I saw VERY few USC fans and when I did I said nothing bc I knew they had to be loyal... now SC flags are EVERYWHERE, about six montsh ago I got crap in a bar over my ND shirt by a group of SC "fans" and I asked them to name SC's QB before Matt lyingheart and they couldn't do it... some fans...

I get so much shit for being ND out here its just stupid... Laker fans are just as bad... When Van Exel ran this team to a ninth finish in the West there were no such thing as Lakers fans, in fact back then everyone seems to like the Knicks (go figure who was in the finals that year)... the past few years when the Lakers didn't make the p offs or got bounced quick, no such thing as Lakers fans... now one out of everything ten cars has those stupid ass flags... God I hope they get swept...

It wouldn't bother me so much if they would just keep their damn mouths shut with the trash talk but LA fans are a horrible combo of not supporting their teams when they lose then talking a massive ammount of shit when they win... drives me crazy
