Doesn't really make a difference. We got the ball with 62 seconds left and scored with 27 left, which means we needed 35 seconds to score.

So, even if for some insane reason we ran the 25-second play clock down to 1 second before snapping the ball the first time, that just means the first snap comes with 37 seconds left on the clock. The scoring drive took 27 seconds, which leaves 10 seconds left.

That extra time benefited UCLA too. Because we scored with so much time left on the clock, UCLA had time to try to run back the kickoff AND run one last play from scrimmage. If we'd scored with only 10 seconds left on the clock, the clock could've easily run down on them on the kickoff play with no time left to snap off a play from scrimmage.

Of course, having that extra time could've affected our play-calling too, which may have made the difference, but hey, how many guys had shots on Shark on that final play? I counted 4. If just one of them wraps Shark up, then Dorrell is basking in the warm afterglow of a stunning upset victory this morning.

Quietly submit a tape to the Pac-10 refs committee and move on. There's no big deal here.

Exactly! CW pointed this out in his press conference after the game. UCLA's coach needs to brush up on the rules.

no it was alittle longer then a second because my wife and i were laughing about it while nd was still lining up.

but the clock wasn't supposed to start until the whistle blew. I just watched the replay today and from the time the whistle blew until the time we snapped the ball was 1 maybe 2 seconds. Either way, it didn't really make much of a difference. meanwhile, UCLA tries to put together they're last chance drive and lets a good 10 seconds (I think) run off the clock.
