Vaughn is transferring. This is a blow, this kid looked like he had some potential, and with Stovall and Mcknight in their last year he would've perhaps been a major player for us in 06'.

I think Ty made a big mistake not red shirting him last year, the kid barely played and lost a year of eligibility, plus he probably wasn't going to see the field much this year, and then in 06' would only have 2 years to prove himself, compared to the 3 years he'd have if Ty redshirted him last year.

Why are there already three players leaving? Is there something going on that we do not know about? How many players transfer away from Notre Dame on average each year? Does anybody know?

I wonder if the new coaching staff is hinting that they need to leave or they just don't like the coaching changes.
I dont know why these players are leaving unless they want a spot on a team this coming season and they do not want to wait until next season.

Maybe Weis doesn't feel there any good and wants them to leave. Callahan did it last year at Nebraska.

yeah Queens, I think weis is weeding out the players he doesnt seem fit for his system, which i agree with. I was all fired up at first but, after I settled down, i realized that weis knows what hes doing. Weis is going after HIS type of players, I mean we should be pretty good at receiver still, with Hord and Gallup coming in. Im sure weis will get another receiver to sign also, so im just riding this one out. Have faith guys, Weis knows the type of players he needs to get us back.

Well look at his profile. This is still a big loss. How many wide outs do we have that are 6'4" and run sub 4.4? The only one I could think of who comes close to his height is Jeff [Samardzija].

Some people are saying his grades weren't very good.

Wooden and Hoskins could play WR. If Weis can land another 2 nice receivers this class, I think we'll be ok...

His departure will only have an impact if the injury bug hits the team because he would more then likely end up being 4th or 5th on the depth chart this fall. ND should be fine Weis is going to have to have a GREAT haul this season in terms of recruiting cause Ty left this team crippled.

I think Ty actually had to devote time into messing up this program. Nobody could have good intentions but still screw up a program like this. Unless of course he was never capable of being a Div I coach anywhere in the NCAA. Hmmm Im thinking alittle of both.

he actually did the same thing to Stanfords roster as well. His O-line had to learn all the positions on the line, example a center had to learn the blocking assignments for a guard, a guard for a tackle, because he didnt recruit enough linemen for depth. This guy is so incompetent it makes me sick. He is going to bring the Huskie program downhill so fast. Look at where he is compared to Weis. And ESPN has the guts to say that ND is worse off for firing him.

Maybe Vaughn simple didn't have the marbles to work hard enough? If you are talented and work your tail off, you'll see the field.

Maybe this Vaughn kid was good, but sometimes talent isn't enough. You also have to fit in well with the rest of the team and with the coach. If you don't fit, your raw talent is useless, or at least greatly diminished.

Also, Weis hits me as a very tough coach, certainly tougher than Ty, who took a much lower-key approach. You play a couple of years under a coach with a soft touch, and then suddenly he's gone and replaced with a guy who's a lot tougher and more demanding. That's gotta be jarring, and not everyone is going to be willing to put up with that long enough for the payoff... which is that you start winning again.

I think this is for the better. If he wants to go, let him go. I don't want a guy on the team unless he wants to be on that team.

Whatever the problem was, somebody was unhappy. It's unfortunate, but everyone is probably better off. From a depth standpoint, losing anyone right now isn't good. Hord will probably get time if he practices well.

These players leaving as of late leads me to believe that 2006 and 2007 are going to be more realistic years in terms of success. Weis is going to have to out scheme everyone with what he has.

And ND's schedule is formidable. There will not be a lot of room for error.

Ty's first class was a very good one, then things fell off. However, Vaughn's desire to transfer should have no bearing on Tyrone Willingham. Weis said himself that the one thing he noticed about the players Willingham's staff left behind was that they were young men of character. I hope Washington beats USC. I couldn't care less if they win all the games on their schedule, minus Notre Dame of course.

Again, as I've said in another post currently up, why are we still talking about this guy? When ND beats Washington, can we finally just let it go? He's gone. I'd really like to have discussions that focus on keeping our eyes forward on the road rather than glancing back in the rearview mirror.

What's done is done. Weis will out coach and out recruit most people in the years to come. He's just going to need some time.

The last line of this article struck me. I get the feeling that to play football for Charlie Weis you have to want to play. You have to be a football guy.

Maybe Vaugn is an athlete that happens to be good at football, but not a football player. He may be comfortable within his limits. Weis will push everyone beyond their limits thus improving them as players and as people. Talent will only take a player so far, hard work and dedication is needed for real success.

Regarding the other transfers, I think Weis may be "weeding out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear.." to quote Gunnery Sgt. Hartman.

And maybe these kids just changed their minds. After all kids their age change their minds everytime they change socks.

So there you have it. My psychoanalysis of the 19 year old mind. I'm not a psychologist but I will be staying at a Holiday Inn Express when I'm in South Bend this fall for the MSU game.

If Weis wants football players, not athletes, I have no problem with this. Football players with speed and speedy athletes are two completely different things. A guy needs to know the X and O's to be effective on the field.

Some bad stuff is coming out about Vaughn, he stole stuff(credit cards, text books etc) from his classmates. Weis was upset because he made the school give him a second chance, and the kid screwed up again.

Just hope he doesn't end up at Michigan, which has also been rumored.

If Notre Dame releases his transcripts, he can go wherever he wants. If he goes to Louisville or Michigan, he sits for a year. If he goes I-AA, he can play in September.

I haven't found anything about him stealing from classmates. Where is that information coming from?

Coaches do it all the time, Weis can withhold his transcripts from Michigan.

I'm glad this kid is gone, Weis put his neck out for the kid, then the kid goes and does some more stupid things. I think weis is bringing order back to this team, TY never had a handle on this team, thats probably why kids are getting suspended and transferring. I have no doubt that Weis will rectify this and bring order back to this team.

Weis has said from day one that the players he's inheirited are men of character. Of course, there will be a few bad apples. And the whole firing left these guys hanging out to dry for a while when Weis was still with the Patriots.

I don't think, by any means, Ty lost a handle on the team. Am I forgetting any discipline issues that occured this past season?

Good people off the field. Misdirected on it for sure.

This will be a process, a marathon not a race. Weis is going to need a couple of years to get the ship up and running the way he wants it.

are we beating up on vaughn a little bit here? i read somewhere recently (maybe here) that he was always a basketball player, but got into football on a little bit of a whim - only played a couple years in high school and had some success. maybe he just doesn't have it in him to play under the demanding type of pressure that weis is asking for. i get the impression that you really have to love the game of football to play under weis.

Notre Dame is not for everyone. That much is certain. Even if they get in, it doesn't work out. Before we cast this guy out into working retail, I'd like to figure out exactly what the deal was and get concrete facts about the situation.

Either way, he's gone and it is for the best.
