FLORIDA’S UNIQUE PITCH

How did Florida recruit so many quality recruits this year? A hint from today’s AJC recruiting fold out:

We asked a few recruits to finish this sentence: The funniest thing to happen to me on the recruiting trail was…
“The Florida coaches took me out to the lake and a very attractive girl in a bikini walked by. One of the coaches said ‘Jim, you won’t see that at Notre Dame’”

The quotee here is Jim Barrie, an OL prospect with a 3. 75 GPA who intends to become a veterinarian following his playing career. He chose Florida, by the way, though we’re sure his interest in the bikini-wearing wildlife of Alachua county had at least a tiny impact on his decision along the way.

For God sake.
Hey Urby, why don't you worry less about what ND is doing and focus more on how in the Hell you are going to pull off the spread offense down South. When you fall flat on your face, why don't you worry about how many of your "Top class recruits " jump ship.

Hell, Urby would whore off his own daughter to a recruit just to get a signature. Does he have a daughter? And was she wearing a bikini when she walked by Barrie? It's all starting to make sense.

I don't care about any of this the PTI guys said it best, in the many years that Florida has played football they have brought in top classes and had a long list of good coaches but the bottom line remains they only have ONE national title in all those years. So yes you may see half naked girls year around and yes you get to live in warm weather but I am pretty sure neither of those two things are going to help you win games.

Urban is scared sh*tless of Notre Dame because he is the one that said no one can win there.

Well guess what you carpet bagging toolbox of a used car salesmen: Someone can. And all it takes is proactive recruiting, not a bunch of sissymary excuses like your old boss had.

You smell that? Fear. Barrie and Lawrence Marsh were passed over by ND. PASSED OVER. ND didn't recruit Riley Cooper very hard, either. Florida might have let up a little on Toryan Smith. Urban tried to get Darrin Walls and Raeshon McNeil, Dan Wenger, Sam Young....every guy ND wanted that Urban wanted ND got.

Urban is a d*ckwad.

You have to wonder how he feels now after Charlie Weis' turnaround of the program happened in year one. I thought nobody could ever win at ND Urban? Now Charlie is coming in to Florida and stealing recruits. My, what a little hard work and less whining will do for you. Truthfully, I'm glad he dissed us and we got Charlie. Charlie is a hard worker, Urban was trying to find the easy button. He found it in Florida: year-round warm weather, beautiful bikini-clad co-eds, a program already rich in talent, etc. Florida always gets world-class talent. How that talent will do in the SEC? Only time will tell. I'm really interested to see how he's going to get the spread option working in the SEC. I've said it before, there is just too much speed in the SEC. He's already had to adjust the offense in the first year. The defenses in the SEC are probably the closest thing you can get to NFL defenses. Alot of the defensive coordinators are from the NFL. Running to the edges isn't going to work in that league. He'll have his share of 10 win seasons and a couple of SEC Championships, but that's about it.

If you look at Meyer's track record, it seems the second year has been the turn around year at his last two stops (of course, he only stayed at said stops 2 years a piece I think). If the pattern holds up, this is supposed to be the big year at Florida. We shall see, I'm not sold on him turning Florida into the gods of football they were supposed to be once he got there just yet.

Utah and Bowling Green are two different animals.

If that trend holds true in 2006, I'll be pretty damn impressed. They play at Tennessee, At Auburn and at Florida State. The wild card game is at Vanderbilt. After the hose job the refs did to Vandy against Florida this year, you'd better believe those guys will be pumped to play. I'm sure UGA, Tennessee and FSU are all looking for some payback as well.

Glad ND doesn't have to play that schedule.

Notre Dame wouldn't do very well in the SEC right now. There are plenty of teams in the SEC with speed similar to OSU. We all know speed kills.

I agree Jigga. However, Vandy has a HUGE HOLE to fill, in the loss of CUTLER. I hope Johnson was able to parlay a decent year into a solid recruiting class for Vandy, as they at least give us ONE team to root for in the SCANDAL ENGAGED CONFERENCE
