Somehow my 12 year old has grown up really liking Oregon. As an experience, we are heading out west to see a game at Autzen, and before trying to find their board and asking them I thought I would ask my fellow Irish fans if anyone has ever been to a game and just some basic info about tailgating, what to see/what to avoid etc?

We are flying into Portland and staying in downtown Portland, so anything we should see or do in that area would also be super helpful.

Thanks in advance guys

Not sure about Autzen but around Portland their is amazing hikes and a ton of waterfalls just follow the Mt Hood Loop. And outside of Salem there is Silver Falls St park which is amazing with so many great water falls to see and should be great in the fall time. Portland Zoo is small but pretty great. Lots of breweries.

Have been to Oregon for a run around the track, but never to Autzen or to football/tailgating.
In terms of what to do in Portland though, there's lots of nice nature around! A few things I enjoy around there:
1) The international rose test garden. Have to stop and smell the roses (literally). Just an impressive collection of different kinds and colors of roses and worth the short drive
2) Right next to the rose gardens are Japanese gardens that are worth the price of admission (I got scared off the first time, but was really thankful I did it the second time!).

Not sure if those are too lame or not demure enough for 12 year olds these days...

3) Multnomah Falls are a short trip from downtown and really cool!
4) If you're ok getting a little wet, the hike/scramble to through Oneonta gorge is really cool and easy enough for a 12yo

A lot of the rest of my memories of the Portland area involve many of the great breweries in the area. Not sure if you want to are or able to drag your kid along for those, but lots of good beer out there! There's lots of other fun stuff in Oregon that's a little less close to Portland (Mt. Hood, Tillamook Creamery, Cannon Beach, Crater Lake to name a few), but those will all add various levels of time to your trip. Oh, and if you're golfers, my dad has never been able to heap enough praise onto Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes out there.... Enjoy!
