Thought I'd try my hand at transforming an old classic

Twas the night before Signing Day, when all through the school
Not an athlete was stirring, not even a Poole.
The verbals were hung by the Grotto with care,
In hopes that #bangbang soon would be there.

The fans were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Agholors danced in their heads.
And Lynch with his mob, and Mulvey in his cap,
Had just settled their brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the Indiana snow
Gold the luster of mid-day objects below.
When, what to my Irish eyes should appear,
But a gigantic Jet, and eight recruits in ND gear.

With a handsome driver, so lively and macho,
I knew in a moment it must be Coach Diaco.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Gunner! now, Stanley! now, Russell and Jones!
On, Nicky! On, Shepard! , on Deontay and Mahone!
To the top of the dome! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As shamrocks that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the basillica the coursers they flew,
With the Jet full of Stars, and Coach Alford too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The tackling and jawing of each Irish dude.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Coach Kelly came with a bound.

He was dressed in ND colors, from his head to his toe,
And his clothes were all tarnished with that famous golden glow.
A bundle of LOIs he had flung on his back,
And he looked like ol Rockne, just opening his pack.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know ND NATION had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the rosters, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his Leer Jet, to his staff gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like Raghib and the Missile.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he sped out of sight,
"Happy Signing to all, and to all a good-night!"
