Like Tony Driver at Safety. He was Mr Ohio as a RB...but was an awesome Safety.

but Mr. Driver was from KY, not OH. I'm not sure if he was Mr. Kentucky or not. He played for Louisville Male High. not a big deal, but as a native of KY, I like to think that at least a few good ND players came from the state.

Maybe you're thinking of Tony Fisher who was from Ohio, and I believe was Mr. Ohio.

You are right, I mixed up Fish's and Driver's backgrounds.

But Driver was supposed to be quite good...

Here is the info I found on him:
"Tony Driver: Driver was one of the most coveted running backs in the recruiting class of 1997, and the Irish beat out Florida State to land him. Driver ranked fourth on the team in rushing as a freshman, tied for fourth on the team in tackles as a sophomore, shared the tailback spot as a junior and then moved to free safety as a senior. He tied an NCAA individual record by returning two fumble recoveries for touchdowns in the same game. At Louisville's Male High School, Driver ran for 3,460 career yards and 48 touchdowns." - Irish Sports Report

"Parade, Reebok and USA Today All-American first-team selection, lining up at tailback, wide receiver and defensive back at Male (Louisville, Ky.) High...Ranked as the fifth-best prospect nationally by the Chicago Sun-Times...Rated as the 34th-best offensive player nationally by The Sporting News...Named Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year...Selected to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100 squad...Also named to Scholastic Coach’s All-America team of 101 players...Third-team pick on the All-South team chosen by Fox Sports South...Rushed 267 times for 1491 yards and 18 touchdowns as senior in '96...Also caught 25 passes for 467 yards and five scores...His career totals included 538 carries for 3460 yards with 48 touchdowns and 82 receptions for 1612 yards, including 22 scores...Three-time All-State selection...Won the state title in the 100 meters as a junior and also played basketball...Started at defensive back as a freshman on a team that won state title, then played both tailback and wide receiver as sophomore" - http://www2.jsonline.com/packer/rev/apr01/defensivebacks-tonydriver.asp

I read a post...

I read a post...

on Rock's House a week or so ago. The proverbial "somebody" had dinner with "one of the coaches" (Minter?). In response to a question about what Weis was reported to have said: "Not all the guys on offense will be playing on that side of the line" (or words to that efect) the coachs' remark was " one or two guys may make the jump to Defense". I don't know where TT's name came from. I think he is needed at RB. Is Ashley McConnell athlete enough to make it at LB? We could use his size there. How about Darrin Bragg?

I would guess that Bragg is still undersized for the position he would be more of a tweener at that position.

This Travis Thomas crap is all rumor BULL and nothing more. Travis Thomas is going to play offense and get some carries with Walker on OFFENSE.

Now here is a report with some more credence and credibility to it: Notre Dame is going to be playing quite a bit fo 4-2-5 and 4-1-6 defense because of the September schedule being full of pass happy opponents. Moving Travis Thomas to linebacker would then not make much sense with that being said, now would it?

This is from Blue and Gold writer Jason Sapp, who is not some goof on the internet posting nonsense. This is tangible information that I feel can be relied upon.

Thanks Jigga, it was prolly just something someone overheard....they were probably refering to M. Thomas who does play LB and someone took it the wrong way....and then people here blew it up and people just kept adding to it.....its finally nice to see some factual information from a true source.

If not TT or Bragg, possibly Asaph Schwapp to LB? I know he got a lot of PT at FB as a frosh, but he didn't always run "confidently" and he certainly didn't blow many people up in his few opportunities as a lead blocker (yes, I realize that doesn't inspire much confidence in him being a punishing LB...). I think I remember one recruiting rag mentioning he could be a bigtime LB...???

Really though, I don't think we're deep enough at ANY position to be switching experienced backups to other positions.

If Thomas moves to Linebacker. I think its because CW thinks that Prince and Aldridge can get the job done. He also might think the Thomas has a shot to linebacker at the next level. He might have left him at running back last year because of depth issues at running back. We also had a good group of linebackers last year. This is just my opinion. Whatever Charlie wants Charlie gets.

Let's hope that Chris Gallippo is watching this September.
"4-1-6, now I would LOVE to play in that kind of defense! Hey, if Gray can do it, so can I."
