Russel (Lincoln, NE): Tom, Notre Dame has only five scholorships left to give out. Which five prospects do you see commiting to the Irish?
Tom Lemming: Sam Young, Dan Wenger, Konrad Reuland, Matt Carufel and a linebacker to be determined at a later date.
Twentyninepalms, CA: Where do you think Notre Dame will end up in the recruiting rankings this year?
Tom Lemming: Notre Dame will wind up in the top three. My believe is that it will come down to Texas, USC and ND in the top three. USC is the school that can set the tone with who it signs in the next two months. Everything is in the Trojans' corner.
.Randy from Buffalo: Do the Irish have even an outside chance of landing Gerald McCoy?
TL: Of course. ND is right there with USC, Miami and Oklahoma. The Irish' chances are just as good as the other three, according to Gerald, who I spoke to two days ago
.Robert (Richmond, VA): Tom with Weis out recruiting juniors do you think that his efforts will result in a better return recruiting next year.
TL: Yes. Notre Dame could wind up No. 1 this year. I believe the 2007 class will be even better and it could be led by the nation's No. 1 junior prospect Jimmy Clausen
Peter Nurke: What chance does ND have of landing 4 to 5 more of your top 100 players in this class?
TL: The chances are excellent right now. They have a good shot at Sam Young, Matt Carufel, Gerald McCoy, Butch Lewis and Konrad Rueland.
Mike (Chicago): Will Notre Dame have the number one recruiting class when it is all said and done?
TL: My guess right now is ND has a good shot at finishing No. 1 if it gets Young, Reuland and McCoy.
Vernon (Tulsa): It seems like all the top recruits end up at the same 20 programs any year. How does a school break into that elite mix?
TL: It is difficult. I havent seen a school break into that elite mix over the past 20 years with the possible exception of Florida State, which was just beginning to become the powerhouse it is now. It takes years of consistent winning. You need to put together 10 straight years of big-time winning to enter the elite groups. Notre Dame is back into the mix after being gone for 10 years. USC came back in about three years ago after being gone for a long time. For the most part, it is the same old schools.

jiggafini19 said:They're completely stocked right now at just about every position. Great problem to have, but eventually kids are going to go where the two-deeps are a little thinner. Booty and Sanchez are going to be there for a while, so why would Tim Tebow go to SC when he can start at Alabama or Florida within a year?
The 85 limit has placed a premium on parity. Nebraska and Florida State can't stock up 110 players anymore, most of those being All Americans. Kids want to go where they can get the full ride and play...and win.
weisfaninmass said:Jigg, they will be saying the same things about ND in 2 years. That is when a program can hit an inflection point and start to slide a little. Then in a couple of years as the weaker classes get older 11-1 seasons become 8-3.
weisfaninmass said:Good points, but National Championships only goes as far as your starting QB. It will be interesting to see how Sanchez and/or Booty do coming into big games. Will they just slide right into the role a la Leinart replacing Palmer or will they look more like a Brock Berlin.
