Todd McShay 2010 Mock Draft

McShay just released his first mock draft. Now, I used to really like Todd McShay, because I thought he was a healthy counterpart to Mel Kiper - who sometimes come off a little too all-knowing. However, with what he's done recently, he is starting to really annoy me. Obviously I am not an NFL draft expert, but I do believe that I have read my fair share of material on the prospects.

More than anything, I don't think McShay is as knowledgeable as many of his "draft-nik" counterparts. Here's a link to his projected first round:
Scouts Inc.: Offensive and defensive linemen dominate the top of Todd McShay's second 2010 mock NFL draft. - ESPN

Items of note:
- No Jimmy Clausen
- McCoy picked #1 over Suh.
- Bradford (the first QB off the board) at #9 to the Bills
- Only two skill position players in top 10.
- No Golden
- Jason Pierre-Paul jumping all the way to #3!!
- Bryan Bulaga jumping up to #6

Now, some of these aren't terrible picks. But all of these combined - especially no Jimmy in the first round, and Pierre-Paul jumping to #3, and McCoy over Suh - would be pretty damn big surprises.

If I come back in April, and he is right on some of these, I will own up. However, I think this is one of the worst mock drafts I have seen yet. Time will tell...

McShay hates Clausen for whatever reason. He was much better when he did recruiting.

The only reason he is doing this is because he wants people to talk about it. He will get more air time that way. I don"t think he is any good.

Todd McShay? More like Todd McShit! Jokes aside, this is a pretty terrible mock. Even if Jimmy did fall past the top ten, which he won't, my Vikings would probably be glad to take him at the #29 slot. McCoy, whom is an elite prospect, is still not as good as Suh.

Ok for those of us who are not insiders, can someone paste it or something. Why is everything on that site insider now? Do they not make enough money?

McShay lists Clausen's biggest unknown as leadership. That should give you an indication of his football knowledge.

Sorry, I don't have the time to gather info right now, but it is inaccurate to say that McShay is usually accurate. Kiper is typically more accurate. Off the top of my head, I remember that McShay had Sanchez going somewhere near #20 in his mock draft. I don't think he has a terrific track record as far as picking QBs.

He'll switch it up before the draft, especially after the combine. He just wants views and hits.

Todd McDummy is NOT usually accurate, esp when it comes to QB's. He's famous for his unbelievable love for JaMarcus Russell (giving him his highest all-time grade for a QB), but he's had many, many more blunders. Most notably, a few years ago he gave Kentucky QB Andre Woodson a first round grade and had him going in the 1st round 3 weeks before the draft, when NFL people had him nowhere near that high. When he realized how far off he was, he dropped him to the 3rd round. Of course, Woodson went to the 6th round and is now out of football.

McDummy is known as a joke in the NFL. He was touting Tebow earlier this year, then recently killed him in a film breakdown (really...it took you that long to realize he wasn't a pro QB???). He has this huge hatred for Clausen, stating time and time again how toughness and accuracy were his biggest weaknesses....when we all know those are his biggest strengths!!! He finally got off the 'accuracy' issues (after Kiper made him look like a fool), but he's still hating on Jimmy big time.

Long story short, I call him McDumbass for a reason...

For some reason, I can't stop laughing at this. Maybe because it's 1:30 in the morning and I'm really tired, but mannnn. Hilarious.

He was actually on the Redskins practice squad to end the season.

I think he is right about that. Jimmy comes across as a dbag, I never really saw him as ND's leader. In fact since Brady graduated ND has not had a true leader.

Also, Jimmy loves staring down his primary target, holds the ball too long, is not very mobile, doesn't fare well against a strong pass rush, hasn't won a big game, and has an average arm. He is accurate, especially on the deep ball, but he also had a lot of help from Tate and Floyd.

He was a great college qb, but I don't think he will do much in the pros. I hope he does well, but I wouldn't bet on it.

mcshay has personal vendettas towards some players for some reason.

Jimmy and Golden are two of those players he has a problem with.

Kiper is much more knowledgable, if you dont have clausen in your top 10, you're either A. incredibly stupid, B. Incredibly biased or C. Both.

1. Mays will not fall to the eagles
2. If the eagles pick Mays, they're very dumb for not addressing their biggest need : Linebackers

Clausen has a good arm. Strong arms are overrated. Jamarcus Russell and Kyle Boller really panned out.

I've never noticed Clausen stare down his receivers. The fact that he had just 4 interceptions last year would speak otherwise.

Every pass rush Notre Dame faced was tough. He had the best year for a pro style QB in college football history with no offensive tackles who deserved a scholarship.

Clausen threw for 285 yards and 2 touchdowns against USC last year and the offense scored 27 points. I think the blame should go on the despicable defense Tenuta trotted out last year. How can Clausen win a big game when he is one of very few players who were any good on this team.

Watch the TD passes against Michigan and USC. Clausen didn't need any help for those TDs. Any of us could have been on the receiving end of that pass. Those were perfect. Clausen is the best QB in Notre Dame history and will be a top 5 QB in the NFL by his fourth year.

Your signature has made me take anything you post as a joke though.

YouTube - 2009 Jimmy Clausen Highlights Go to 2:16 and tell me that he won't be great. If you do you will be lying because that was a perfect 40 yard pass.

And Clausen was also voted a team captain as a sophomore so clearly his teammates didn't think he was a douche. They would know best.

Mays shouldn't be a first day or a second day pick. I think he will be taken in the 2nd by an incredibly stupid team.

McShay said that Clausen made his receivers work for the ball too much. Kiper responded that Tate said he never had to work for a ball. Fraud McShay responds and I quote, "I don't care what he thinks." Obviously McShit thinks he knows more about Clausen's passes than his own wide receivers. This guy shouldn't have a job. He's the biggest idiot ever to be on TV including politicians.

with 'his' guy getting ran, and the unknown of a new coach, with a spread system. I dont see the benefit is Mr. Clausen staying another year. If Weis was running the spread when he recruited Mr. Clausen, he would not have come. NFL prospect QB's only play in the spread if they have to, not if they have a choice.

McShay lists Clausen's biggest unknown as leadership. That should give you an indication of his football knowledge.

Mr. Clausen was the leader of the 2009 team. McShay looks like an idiot.

Jimmy has come across as a dbag in the past, but I didnt see any of that for the last 18 months he was on campus. Sometimes ppl grow up, and you have to acknowledge that. The Syracuse loss was the turning point for Clausen, on the field at least. His comment in the summer of "Coach is not getting fired because of me." shows accountability and leadership off the field. On the field, Clausen's strengths are footwork, accuracy, decision making, toughness, and leadership. He doesnt have the biggest arm out there, but he can accurately hit the 25 yard out pattern, which is what is needed for the NFL. so his arm strength is good enough. What is this crazy business of him staring down receivers?? As IrishR#1 said, look at his TD:INT ratio, that is not the ratio of a qb staring down receivers, or a product of good luck. that is an indication of good decisions being made.

McShay is an idiot. Clausen won't fall past Seattle.

how ironic if PTC takes Mr. Clausen....but all I keep hearing is how he possibly wants Leinart and possibly even Reggie Bu$t because it looks like he wont be on the Saints next year....Maybe PTC can work out a deal to get Rey Rey over to Seattle from Cincy; of course after Rey Rey clears up his post season DUI.

Im a ND fan who lives in Nebraska so im very surprised at how low he has put Clausen and Suh..........this man is an idiot

I'm no draft expert, but Suh looks like a cant miss prospect. Watch that Big12 championship game against Texas, he was manhandling 300lbs lineman like swatting flies. Suh is a beast. I'd hate to have to answer why I didnt draft him if I had the first pick. He looks NFL-ready now.

Mays shouldn't be a first day or a second day pick. I think he will be taken in the 2nd by an incredibly stupid team.

Although I do believe he is overrated, there is no way he falls to day two. He has been an All-American the past three years, and just due to his size and speed alone (6'3, 230, 4.45) he should go in Day 1. I would think an early 2nd or late 1st.

If the Eagles do draft Mays, they WILL be addressing the linebacker position. It'll just be a year or two down the road once they find out he REALLY can't cover as a safety.

He would be a mediocre safety but an unbelivable linebacker as an OLB in a 3-4

I agree..

He is overrated largly for his speed; with the implication that he can cover as good as his speed suggests. The other reason is his 'big hits', but I have always said that he leads with the crown of his helmet alot of times, and hitting a dude with the crown of your helmet doesnt make someone a big hitter. It only causes injuries to all invloved (see his Rose Bowl hit vs. Penn State; he injures the penn state guy, and his own teammate, and I believe he comes up woozy), Mays is dangerous on the field, but for all the wrong reasons.

That being said, I cant imagine him lasting past the first day. If he does go past the first day, its his own fault, cause that dude was gonna be a top 10 pick in last years draft, but for some reason he chose to stay another year. (maybe he listened to PTC, while Sanchez didnt and bolted to the NFL). He reminds me of Steve Atwater/Darren Woodson-type, about the same size, and prolly faster. Not saying he will be that good, but I think he has the potential.
