Academic standards were too difficult to attract elite players/ND won't bend enough academically to allow elite players/The Irish glory days are in the past/Who would want the ND head coaching job/Who wants to play in the crappySouth Bend weather/ND can't compete with the elite FBS schools/ND is irrelevant....

Much like all of you, I've heard it all about how ND will never see their way to a NCG or be a major contender in football again. ND has had a few years of being up since 1988, but nothing like what we are experiencing here today, now, in the present.

It feels good.

Saturday night, to their credit, ESPN repeated that statement and acknowledged, #1 in graduation IS #1 in the land.

The guy at work is a bandwagon Oregon fan. He said Oregon would score monster points on Stanford or ND (buy the way, two very good educational institutes). I've been telling him ever since Kelly took over that it was going to happen. Oregon scores 14 points because Stanford turned the ball over 3 times.

There is a special breed of player that wants both an education and football. This breed is usually a very disciplined bunch.

It is true that we may never get all of the great athletes that Alabama or LSU can get because we do have high standards and we won't cheat in recruiting but as we can see we can get more than enough elite athletes.

Also, USC is probably the most talented squad in the nation but they have 4 losses. Why? Lack of discipline which reflects the poor coaching. Our coaching is excellent so we do the little things well, those little things USC doesn't do well, we don't get penalized a lot, we don't turn the ball over a ton, we stay disciplined in the trenches, and we tackle well.

Are you crazy? Our on field talent is outrageous!

Yeah, loved hearing this ESPN lead-in last night. There are so, so many things to love about ND and ND football, but as an educator it's their grad rate that I most hang my hat on. I've said it before that if you told me that ND would go 6-6 forever in football but keep educating their players like they have, my fandom wouldn't decrease in the slightest.

But fortunately, we aren't anywhere close to .500, so this is truly something for all ND fans to be so proud of. Winning on the field and in the classroom - doesn't get any better than that.

If someone could post some pics from campus yesterday, you'd see all you need to recognize the beauty of the school and the football weather they play in.

You don't have to convince me. Although I never went to school there, I've been to the campus a thousand times and I agree, it's a special, spirit filled and beautiful place.
