The magic is back

A loss is a loss. We are 4-2. But this game proves that Notre Dame is back among the elite in short order. As far as I'm concerned, they were equals with USC yesterday, and USC (I'm sorry, I mean Southern Cal since they hate that) will most likely run the table to the national title game. I can only expect great things next week when I visit to observe ND crush BYU. I can again expect the Irish to be a national championship contender every year. We all have waited a long time (from Davie to O'Leary to Willingham) but the magic is back in the house that Rockne built. Go Irish!

well said. a loss is a loss, but the losses over the past years have been BAD losses showing no signs of us being GOOD. This loss showed us and the world that we're back.

Notre Dame's combined loss total: 6. We are going to compete in every game we play if not win every game we play. Thats the difference a coach can make.

agree w/ everything you said, except one thing. when we talk about the Irish coaching lineage, can we all please agree to just leave O'Leary out of it? Every time I hear his name I shudder b/c the guy was there for a grand total of 4 days if i remember right. everytime I heard an ESPN announcer talk about how Weis was ND's 4th coach in 4 years last December, it always took me like 3 minutes to figure out what the hell they were talking about b/c I always forget about O'Leary. I dunno, I just don't consider a guy w/ a 0-0 win/loss record a former ND coach. I don't even think he ever even collected a check from the University since he was let go b/c of lying on his resume.

I wish that all of you could have experienced this game yesterday. What Notre Dame is really all about was exemplified if every way.

After the game when U of Spoiled Children finally left the field, the fans paid tribute to the players and the band played on. The recruits surely saw just what a real family this university and the football program are. There is love in victory and defeat.

On a side note, the band paying tribute to the opponent's school song after a loss makes me want to vommit in my mouth. ND is class and everyone knows it. Slightly over gracious in defeat. That tradition needs to end. Second, why ND came out of the tunnel first is beyond me. In high school and college, we NEVER came out first at home. And we'd sit in the locker room all day if we had to. I'm glad I had two coaches that adhered to this rule.

I was there Jig and agree with everything you said.

Did any of you happen to see the pep rally. Now, I am not a big fan of pep rallys - I never went to one when I was there. However, there had to be over 50,000 people there. Unbelievable - the entire campus (inside and outside of the stadium) was pure electricity.

I have heard that the players are not saluting the student section after the game. I assume that the new philosophy is, they only do that if they win?

As for the magic being back: I'm starting to get this nauseating feeling that we may play Boston College in a bowl game. They're looking very good this year. Whoop-up on anybody, but especially them...I'm talking grade-A blow-out...

They saluted them, just very marosely.

Two heartbreakers at home this year. We'll see what happens against BYU.

The players definitely saluted. However - not very long - you could tell they were hurting real bad.

I would LOVE THAT. They've had their fun with us the past 12yrs. That WILL STOP. I'd love to put a pasting on them...something like 52-21.

And if they do, I want the Ireland Trophy also. That is one of the things that really pissed me off about losing to them last year, the fact they wouldn't play for 3 years and the Ireland Trophy would be in Boston. And if I've said it once I've said it a thousand times that is the real reason that Ty got fired. Same and John Cooper, he couldn't beat Michigan, Ty couldn't beat BC.
