Once again a very questionable list, Arnaz Battler at WR????? What about Mayes or even Lake Dawson?????? Fasano at TE????? I could think of at least 3 TE's in the 90's that were better then Fasano, Derek Brown should make that list. Duff and Walton at corners, I think anyone here would take Tom Carter III and Jeff Burris over Duff and Walton anyday and that is just for starters.

Again, I don't remember most of those players. Of course I know of them, but I can't remember seeing them play. I was a late bloomer, I never really became a fanatic about ND, or even sports in general, until like the tail end of high school so almost all those guys I have no real memory of. If you asked me to make a list of the all-ND team regardless of whether or not I saw them play, that that'd be different.

Hehe, I loved watching that guy play. Just one of those all-around playmakers.

Reggie Brooks gets my nod for two reasons...
1.) He averaged over 8 yards a carry. Davieham Offenses struggled to get eight yards per quarter.
2.) His spinning, tackle-breaking run against Michigan during which he got knocked unconscious at the goal line and still scored a touchdown was the most cock-diesel play I have ever seen.

His one season really stands out. These other players mentioned had better careers but clearly Reggie Brooks one season was the best.

Have we forgotten about Marc Edwards at FB? Dude was a wall at ND.
Rocky Boymen has to get some props on the D side of the ball. That ol boy wasn't strung right and he had a nose for the ball.

How about Johnny Lujack?
He was 26-1-1 as a starter
3 National Championships
Heisman winner
On top of that, he played both ways and is famous for his game saving tackle to Doc Blanchard against Army in 1946.

If we go back that far, I'd have to agree - even though i never saw him play. If we stay in quasi modern day I'd have to go as follows:

1. Rice
2. Theismann
3. Montana
4. Terry Hanratty
5. Brady Quinn.

Tough choice between Theismann and Montana. But Joe T. was #2 for Heisman and Joe M was not so I rate Joe T. ahead. For those that want to put Quinn at or near the top, it is all about winning big games and NCs - of which he has limited success. Fortunately he has one more year to change that. Let's hope this list changes by end of next year.

Tough choice between Casper and MacAfee. They were 2 of the all-time great college TE's although Casper became one of the all time great NFL TE's and MacAfee a dentist. MacAfee was #2 in Heisman run so in terms of college i give the nod to MacAfee.

3. Bavaro
4. Derick Brown
5. Tony Hunter (think he played TE , WR, and wing back)

I thought the thread was the All Notre Dame Team?? Not the All Modern Day Notre Dame Team. It's similar to discussing who are some of the best baseball players, you have to mention the likes of Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Joe Dimaggio,....(who in my opinion will always be much better than the juiced up playes of today) although I never saw them play you can not take away what they did for the sport. I too never saw Lujack play but my dad and uncles have share their stories of those games with me. If NC's is your criteria we will never see a college QB win three in four years like did ever again, because the lure to go pro is to tempting.

I would never put Edwards before Bettis, but I think that he was just worthy of some mention. I loved watching his crushing style of running. Ran with that "you can hit me, but it's going to hurt you more than it does me" attitude.

Sorry for the confusion on that one. I would only make a comment like that if I was three sheets to the wind. Seeing as I am at work right now (and really earning my keep :awesomewo )I couldn't be that hammered (unless the boss is gone and we might head out to the local watering hole for an "extended lunch")

Jiggs' initial post had references to "modern day". For me modern day is 70's (maybe late 60's) thru current. Certainly open for intrepretation.

Sorry Jiggs, but you original list includes Ross Browner who played at ND from 73-77. Unless you remember watching him play from the womb I believe he is a second exception to your lifetime criteia. I understand you reasonings for this criteria but it is over looking a lot of talent prior to you being born.
