This judgement opens up a new Pandora's box. While it's sad to see this girl is going to jail, in another sense, I find some comfort in the verdict. As a society, we have become to cold and callous with what we say, because it's so much easier to say something via text and hiding behind a smart phone, rather than talking to someone face to face. I don't know the girl, but I would think if she had been there with him, she might not have found the words so easy to come by. She might have at least called someone of she had been there instead of on her phone.

This is pretty much saying words matter. the old saying of Sticks and Stones is now shown to be wrong because she her words are being held responsible for his death. I do find comfort in the verdict as well. I don't want to see teens and even young adults telling each other to kill themselves and keep badgering them until they do it. She was in part responsible for his death and deserves to be punished

Good. Everything I've read about this case (including the texts) leads me to believe the girl is a complete and total sociopath. She deserves to have the book thrown at her.

That chick is nuts. No idea what the right or wrong amount of punishment is.

That is going to be another interesting point in this scenario. I initially thought home detention for a couple of years then thought manslaughter is pretty serious, so some jail time is in order. My guess is a couple of years in prison, then 5-10 on probation? I have to believe an appeal will be coming.

IDK how the whole court and incarceration system works. But does the fact she's out now until sentencing show any direction to the sentence?

In my personal opinion, she needs help. Like a few years , not a few months.

It probably just shows that the judge doesn't think she is a serious flight risk. The sentence she faces is a component of that but not the only component.

I don't know the law of Massachusetts, and I don't really know the details of the case or what evidence there is about this girl's character apart from the facts of this case, but manslaughter is probationable in some states. Considering her youth, and if she otherwise shows potential to make something of herself, I could see the judge going easy on her. On the other hand, what she did is unconscionable, borderline sociopathic. I could also see a judge throwing the book at her. It's one of those cases that might depend on the judge's sentencing philosophy.

It's sad that this case is even around. I dislike some people I know but I would never email, text,or social media them a meassage to kill them selves. I would hope that my friends would have already attempted to handle this outside of court. I am not saying it is right but if I knew this happen to someone I would find it hard to not beat the snot out of someone for being that crude.

I still believe that suicide is the most selfish thing anyone can do and believe this kid had other options. This girl took advantage per se of a situation and pushed him to do something g he might not had the courage todo alone.

Awful situation!

Yeah I agree. My reaction to the headline was "Oh come on", but reading the actual texts and context of the situation holy cow. She deserves to spend a good chunk of time behind bars.

She was tried as a minor so this wont even show up on her record. Pretty messed up IMO. I definitely wouldn't want her working for me.
