I honestly thought Golden Tate could be the odd man out this season. He didn't have a clue or a chance to run anything other than a go route last season. He missed some of spring ball for baseball also, so common sense had him being 4th-5th WR. I was WAY wrong. He is a stud. Michael Floyd had the 5 star credentials coming in, and I told my ND family and friends to keep an eye on him. He is MUCH better at this point than I could have imagined. He has the hands, body control, and attitude of a much more experienced WR. He "gets it", and will be a great NFL receiver, but hopefully not for 4 years. Harrison Smith is always around the ball, is a good tackler, has great speed, and always impresses me with his attitude. He's usually in the recently tackled losers face and plays angry. He's playing out of position and has 3 years left AFTER this year. Oh yeah, Trevor Robinson is the man. Recruiting is starting to pay off, and my "mancrushes" are having a hardtime keeping up!

Have to agree with you on all of that junkhead. BUT WHEN ARE WE JUST GONNA BE A TOTALLY DOMINANT DEFENSE????? I honestly cant remember the last time we had a nasty defense. Lou Holtz era is ringing a bell. I'm just not sold on Corwin or Tenuta at this point. I dont see how its possible to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS give up 3rd and longs????? 3rd and 18 and they get the first down??? WTF? Its the same shit almost every saturday with our defense and its getting old and its going to cost us more than one game this year.

The puzzle gets closer to being complete with each game this team plays. Everyone looks better every week. It's pretty damn exciting.

Agree with the anger at 3rd and 18, but this D only gave up field goals until NC was given about 14 points. NC's D created the turnovers. I truly think this is one of the best defenses ND has had in years, and they are doing it with young guys.

This team is quickly becoming a scary monster.

My own personal expectation before the season began was 4-8. I am thinking maybe a few more wins.

The receivers look really, really good. If Clausen comes around, we could be really, really good next year.

We get it, you don't like Clausen. Sorry I don't remember Quinn looking this good this early in his career.

Clausen is doing better than expected by most standards. Running game needs some tweaking for us to be unstoppable.

Clausen is "coming around". And I'm not so sure that he is not being coached to "just chuck it up" to his receivers, when he sees man coverage. If I had guys like Tate and Floyd, that's what I would be telling my QB. "Just get it out there, and give them a chance."

Claussn is a freaking sophmore, for heaven's sake. Charlie NEVER leaned on Brady like he does Jimmy. Not only will he be a stud, he is one.

Clausen has 14 TDs and 8 INTs this year to go with 7 TDs and 6 INTs this year. And that was accomplished against pretty lousy competition generally speaking.

Allow me to give you a comparison:
Cody Hawkins, another sophomore, who plays against much better competition and is way less heralded. In fact, lots of people think he sucks.

Hawkins: 12 TDs and 6 INTs this year to go with 22 TDs and 17 INTs last year.

Tim Tebow was a sophomore last year. He won the Heisman.

And there are probably 5,000 other sophomores who suck, in comparison to Clausen. But we should only compare him to the one that had what amounts to a career year?

No, feel free to compare him to the very average Cody Hawkins who has better numbers.

Funny.....going into today, Clausen had a higher passer rating than Hawkins. 138.3 for Clausen, to 120.0 for Hawkins.

So, you'd rather use an algorithm as opposed to TDs, INTs and yardage? Feel free. Also realize that Hawkins has gone against WVU, Texas, Kansas, & Florida State so far this year.

Look, like I said..we get it you don't like Clausen. I've seen a lot of football and I know what a good QB looks like. To me and many others Clausen passes the eye test, and will only get better. He is steadily improving and will be a legit Heisman candidate next year. If you don't think so, well that's your opinion and your welcome to it, but most people think very differently.

I got to see the first drive and the last drive because of regional coverage.I saw some replays and I have to say that I am proud of our guys going on the road and competing against a good football team despite 5 turnovers we almost won.

I myself am extremely high on claussen.Next year we are competing for a national championship I would'nt trade Jimmy for anybody period! He's the reason we've enjoyed what success we've had when rest of team catches up,forget about it we will be a force to reckon with not only that Jimmy Claussen is already the best pro prospect in the game today.

You were the one who said Hawkins had better numbers than Clausen......

Ok, going by your criteria
Clausen TDs: 12, Hawkins TDs: 10
Clausen INTs: 6, Hawkins INTs: 4
Clausen Yards: 1248, Hawkins Yards: 926

So two more INTs for Clausen, but also 2 more TDs. I'd call that a push, depending on how many points opponents scored off of those INTs. Clausen is way out in front, in yardage. Advantage: Clausen.

Texas: 96th ranked pass defense.
Kansas: 84th ranked pass defense.
West Virginia: 57th ranked pass defense.
Florida State: 19th ranked pass defense.

So Hawkins has faced two defenses in the top half of pass defenses in all of D-IA, as has Clausen(San Diego State is #38, and North Carolina is #58) It's not like Hawkins has been playing against stellar defenses, while Clausen played against bottom feeders. So again a push.

That's two pushes and one clear advantage to Clausen. Sorry, midwestguy, but an honest look at the numbers favors Clausen. Not by a landslide, for sure, but that's not even factoring in that Colorado has a better running game, or the previously mentioned clarification that Hawkins is a redshirt sophomore, not a true sophomore.

alrighty mr negative, now I am not making excuses for this defense, but their offense only put up 22 points. another 2 field goals were because of great field position. so say we didnt turn it over or what not then. their offense only put up 16. Our defense was dominant in the first half. I will agree at times in the second half it seemed non existant.

Thank you for proving you know nothing about the game of football. You're comparing Cody Hawkins to Jimmy Clausen. Are you for real? That's like comparing the Jonas Brothers to the Beatles (not saying Jimmy will be greatest ever, relax), or the Backstreet Boys to the Jackson 5. The only thing Hawkins and Clausen have in common is the syllables in their names. It's not even close. KMoose already killed you with the stats, and you don't even need stats to know they aren't even on the same planet. I've seen Cody play, and we've all seen Clausen (wait, have you midwestguy?), and the simple eyeball test will tell you it's not close.

BTW, your boy Cody went 8-22 today for 90 yards and was pulled from the game. Nice comparison chief...

HUH????? Sorry. I have to disagree with you. Until I see VAST improvement on our defense, then we arent competing for a national championship. NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!!
