Most of the good vibes sprang forth from his last visit. Apologies if most of this is re-cap.
Before he visited, he said he'd do a one day visit, go to other schools for visits, and hit South Bend on the way back, which would make a grand total of 2 days with ND.
When he got here, he changed plans and actually stayed for 3 days straight, supposedly hanging out Jimmy Clausen. On top of that, he spent some time with Ethan Johnson, who obviously committed by trip's end. Clausen makes sense, since he's a QB and Floyd's a WR, but Ethan Johnson is on defense, so hearing that pairing together raised an eyebrow or two.
After that visit, the II staff recapped the Slaughter and Johnson verbals in 4HL. They posted their writeup on the main page for all to see, and the teaser written below the title mentioned that they had "strong evidence" suggesting we'd see verbals from both McCarthy and Floyd in the near future.
With Floyd, thats pretty much the latest we've heard, but with McCarthy a bunch of the OSU posters who live in/ have "connections" to Ohio soon came out of the woodwork and were reiterating the same thing as II about him. Considering OSU is/was the main competition for McCarthy, I don't think their fans would be ecstatic about reporting his commitment to another school. I guess we won't know for certain if they're right until their forecasted commitment date arrives (either July 10th or 11th), but it appears that the II staff was on to something with at least one recruit, so it makes them a little more believable about the other.
And back to Floyd: I have yet to hear anyone from anywhere but ND say "Floyd will end up here." Minnesota fans have waived the white flag on him, the OSU guys think he's a future Domer... the only legitimate threat left out there is Florida, but the kid's list is overwhelmingly midwestern - UF's inclusion is probably a byproduct of their NC. So even if the "expect something soon" rumors are wrong, and he takes more time, is there anyone out there that we fear in Floyd's recruitment? 'Cause I don't.
