Great game overall! Bad play calling in the 2nd half, FG is horrible, and we are WAY too one dimensional...until we consistantly run the ball we will not be a complete team. OH and can we please get a kick off/punt return for more then 20 yards!

Two things became evident to me this game. One of them I've thought all along and the other is a revelation (where's NDinLA??).

One: We can't run the football. Last weeks gawdy stats were piled up on a Purdue defense that can't stop the run. Their linebackers were/are terrible. I said ND wouldn't run for more than 120 this week and now I feel vindicated (but not happy) that I said as much. The o-line just looks blasé. I don't know how else to describe them....they couldn't get 2 inches on a few occassions this game.

Two: Jimmy Clausen is on the verge of becoming a stud and completely silencing his critics, including this guy. He is making good decisions 95% of the time. He threw for 300 yards today and any time you do that it means you're doing something right. I'm really happy with JC.

How good is this guy??? I mean, the first pass of the game was a laser to Rudolph that he had to put right there or else it was picked. Wow. His zip is incredible; his poise, touch, leadership, reading through his progressions, all incredible. And his mobility has improved as well. Mark my words, he'll be better than Brady (possibly by the end of this year - no joke), and I'm a HUGE Brady guy.

I'm with you on so many things though:

1. Running game: pathetic, embarrassing.

2. Defense: That was a bad performance. We got pushed around by a buch of Stanford Trees for pete's sake. I've been touting the D's improvement, but that was a bad day bro. Really bad. The turnovers saved us again, and the sacks (finally!!!!!) were huge, but I'd really like to see us step up. Brian Smith, my fav player, got his ass kicked in the first half. Watch the tape. Stanford could have ran the ball all day but stupidly started to pass in that 3rd quarter. Our D-line got no push on run plays.

3. Weis, I love you, but you have to step on a team's throat. The 2nd fg try was not the call. Period. That should have been a 35-14 rout.

4. Floyd - see you in the 1st round stud. After your jr. year. Wow.

5. Get Tate the ball more. Be creative. He's going to be doubled more now, so instead of throwing that lateral pass twice to Grimes, our slowest receiver, get it to Tate. Run that fake end-around on the run plays that so many teams run to freeze the safeties and d-ends (that will help Allen), and then give him the reverse in the 3rd quarter.

6. Rudolph -Another great ND tight-end.

All that being said, we're 4-1 baby!!! And we look like a team on the rise. This is a good time to an ND fan. A true fan. We can all see the light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, unless we put a whole game together, we won't beat NC on the road next week. But we are going to be scary good sooner than I lot of people think.

Sorry if I've repeated what others have already said, I haven't read the other threads yet...

Great post. You're right on all counts. Regardless of what anybody thinks, we need to play four quarters. That doesn't mean mistake free, it doesn't mean that we score on every drive or stop the opponenets every drive. It means you don't get timid, you go for the throat at all times and that doesn't just apply to the players, it applies to the play callers.

i'd really like to see tate get some more reverses. it's all about touches for him and getting him involved. i was disappointed that he wasn't more in the mix but hats off to floyd and rudolph and allen for solid games. hell, i'd love to see tate to floyd for six or back to clausen for six. sorry, thinking like a video game again.

Jimmy Clausen, barring injury should go down as the Best Ever at ND. He has a better touch on his passes than Brady did. A final thought on Stanford, Harbaugh is an absolute maniac, crying about the officials. ND should be complaining about the crap calls in the second half. Harbaugh needs to come back to reality.

...Secondly, I appreciate Pat Haden, on more than one occassion, pointing out the play of the unheralded back up QB Jimmy Carson. Nice to see a little known player get some recognition. Jimmy Carson is my new favorite player on the team. God, Haden is such a douce!!!!!!!! GET A DAMN ROSTER YOU TURD!!! YOU ARE A FREAKING RHODES SCHOLAR, WHY CAN'T YOU GET THE NAME OF THE STARTING QB RIGHT?!?

Sorry, I just had to get that out...

Funny. I am still laughing.

Harbaugh is a complete asshole. I played football from elementary school right through college and I officiated for a few years, too. I understand the emotion of the game and the need for officials not to make themselves the focal point of a game. Officials, believe it or not, go to incredible lengths not to call penalties that don't have anything to do with the game or current play. I put up with a lot of shit from coaches and never called an unsportsmanlike penalty on the sidelines. If I were officiating that game yesterday I would have called a penalty on Harbaugh, no doubt. He was 7 yards out on the field on a few occassions.

One of the calls he was pissed about was the kick interference penalty. I'm not sure what he was mad about: First, ND didn't ever touch that ball so his team wasn't going to recover it as a fumble; Second, the kick hit his player in the back which means that the returner would had to have gone over his man to make the fair catch which makes it an interference penalty.

He's a fucking baby. Fuck him, fuck whatever that nobody lineman's name is and fuck Stanford.

You noticed that too. I thought I was the only one. I am now your number fan after that last sentence! Harbaugh reminds me of any BYU player or coach or follower.

Funny. I am still laughing.

I am glad you enjoyed it.

Every game, I find myself more and more in disbelief at the completely anti-ND sentiment dropped by your good friend and mine, Pat Haden. I would think if the games were on a station with an exclusive contract with a team, the reporting would be slightly more in favor of the team earning the money. It is an ND telecast and you can't even say the starting QB's name right?!? You are already 4 home games in and you STILL can't get it right? I almost spit my drink all over the TV when he did that. He is such a dip wad!

I can't decide which is worse, listening to Pat Haden and all the verbal diarrhea that spews from his pie hole. Or watching that freakin' cartoon character-in-the-making - Tom Hammond. If that guy gets one more face lift, his ball sack is going to be dangling from his chin!
