I knew Jeff had a good game
but didn't realize that he had 177 yards on 6 receptions, 1 td, for the new record. Thats 29.5 yards per catch
I'll bet that they run an offense against AF like they did against BYU last year. Just spread them out and run slants, outs, and jump ball flies against the shorter DBs from AF. I can see Shark, McKnight, and Carlson really thriving next week.
Yup...it's not like we can run the ball at them...so we might as well pass, pass, pass!!!
Considering that AF has the 106th Rank Pass Defense Efficiency, is 90th in Sacks, and 106th in TFLs and that ND is ranked 8th in Passing why wouldn't even you pass, pass, pass?
But then again Charlie might run as both San Diego St and BYU both rushed for 5+ yd/carry in beating the Falcons. Army ran for 4.9 yd/carry. Navy 4.8. CSU 3.9. The only ones that struggled Rushing against AF was NM 1.3 yd/carry, UTN 2.5 yd/carry, and WYO 3.6 yd/carry. AF is giving up 4 yd/carry this season.
AF and Navy are ranked together for Rush Defense. The Irish ran for 176 yds, 4.8 yd/carry against Navy.
Agreed. Might as well light them up through the air. Stanford was the one game where we could crack 5 yds per carry. I don't see that happening at AF.
The Stanford D gives up an avg of 5.4 yds per carry. We were unable to hit that mark.
Air Force is at 3.8... Might as well pass.
Who'd have thought we would be 105th in Rushing Offense? Ouch.
ND rushed for 4.8 ypc against Navy (similar sized DLine). Is that 0.2 ypc under 5.0 a reason not to run? Particularly as Army rushed for 4.9 ypc against AF. Army lost because of killer turnovers and they didn't have any passing attack when AF stuffed the box in the redzone.
As with BYU, Charlie will take what AF gives him, again, and again, and again.
Yeah, he really came up big today. He looked sharp. I was happy with his performance.
The guys on TV mentioned one thing though...Derek Mayes has 4 unrecorded TDs (from bowl games). When Jeff gets 4 more he is the undisputed leader.
Mayes also had more chances to catch TDs. Shark was woefully underutilized in his sophomore year

That is very true. Really, when you look at it...the fact that Rhema, Maurice, and Jeff will ALL be in the top7 for all time TD receptions really points to Weis.
Stovall's TD receptions & yards:
2002 - 3 - 312
2003 - 3 - 421
2004 - 1 - 313
2005 - 11 - 1,023
McKnight's TD receptions:
2002 - 0 - 91
2003 - 3 - 600
2004 - 3 - 610
2005 - 1 - 69 [only played 2.5 games though]
2006 - 11 - 673 [through 9 games]
Samardzija's TD receptions:
2003 - 0 - 53
2004 - 0 - 274
2005 - 15 - 1,249
2006 - 8 - 686 [through 9 games]
Look at when Weis came in...what a turn-around.
Also, note that for the second year in a row we have 4 receivers with over 40 catches EACH!!!
In 2004, we had 1 receiver with 42 catches (McKnight) In 2003, we only had 1 as well (McKnight)...Omar Jenkins had 35 that year.
Total Receiving TD's in those years:
2003 - 10
2004 - 17
2005 - 32
2006 - 25 (to date)
Its a two way street though.....we get a passing offense that puts up numbers for WR's and QB's and we lose the dominant running game and dominant back.
