Some thoughts...
Some thoughts...
Several things:
1. Scout seems to suffer from marketing inflation.
They award more stars (and more often) compared to
Rivals.
2. In the real world, the number of games played in
a year is 12-13. So at the most, the ratio of win
to losing can be 13x. Rivals ( 2005) averaged 22.1x
in assigning high to low recruiting points to their
rankings. Scout averaged > 30x.
3. The highest average team scoring in 2005 was
50.15pts/game. The lowest was 9.73pts/game. This
is a 5.15x ratio. Rivals numbers were closer to
the mark.
4. The most accurate power rating service (Thompson)
had a 62.05 to 4.81 high to low for a 12.9x ratio.
Again, Rivals wins.
5. Both Rivals and Scouts showed a correlation of
around 49% when comparing 4yr totals of recruiting
points to the 2006 season team winning percentages.
6. The difference in #5 above was so slight that if
I had a subscription to Scout, I would not cancel it.
If I did have a choice, it would be made for the
above reasons...Tom
