As was posted last week Scout has now ranked it's Top 100 players for the 2008 class.
Here is the link:

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=4&pid=88&yr=2008

Some highlights:

1) ND has 5 committed recruits in the Top 100. Rudolph at #25, McDonald at #43, Fleming at #49, Crist at #66, and Cwynar at #92.

2) It's pretty amazing that 43 of the 100 recruits on this list have already verbally committed.

3) Oklahoma is the current leader with 6 commits, ND's 5 commits ties it with USC, OSU, and Texas for 2nd place.

4) 34 of the 61 recruits listed on the Irish Envy Offer List are on this list. Of those 34, 12 have verbally committed, 5 to ND, and 7 to other schools. That leaves 22 current ND offers in the Scout 100 that are still uncommitted, although Shugarts is all but gone to OSU as well. Of the 21 other uncommitteds, ND has offers to 5 of the Top 6 (Arthur Brown, Julio Jones, Terrelle Pryor, Darrell Scott, and the Thrill), and 9 of the Top 20.

5) Of these 21, ND is considered by various sources to be in the mix for at least 8 of these guys, #5 Scott, #6 Hill, #11 Patchan, #19 Forston, #28 Johnson, #32 Filer, #33 Floyd, and #40 Sabino. The best opportunities for the Irish are obviously Floyd & Filer, but the other 6 are all still possibilities.

There are 3 others (Sweat, Ayles, & Brandon Moore) who still express an interest in ND, but seem very unlikely at this point. Sweat seems to have all but committed to OSU, and Ayles & Moore as TE's would seem to be unlikely with the recent commit to ND of Joseph Fauria. Also, Kenny Tate at #69 has been very quiet about his intentions, although it has been rumored that he has silent verballed to Penn State.

6) Of the 5 current ND commits who did not make the Scout 100, Fauria received 4 stars, Cave, Poz, and Golic all received 3 stars, and Goodman received 1 star. Goodman most likely received only 1 star because Scout has not fully evaluated him. For example two other current Irish offers, Brandon Newman & Carlton Thomas also received only 1 star, and there is no way either one of those guys could have been evaluated at 1 star. Both will most likely end up as a 4 star, and Goodman will probably also end up as 3 star.

Overall a very impressive start for the Irish to have Scout rank 5 of it's 10 current commits in their Top 100, although the list was published before Crist & Fleming committed, so that may change with Scout's notorious bias towards USC. It will be interesting to see where it goes from this baseline.

As far as I know, as of yesterday, Sweat was far from Ohio State's. While details were not divulged, Andrew felt that Ohio State might not be for him, thus pushing Penn State, Notre Dame, and North Carolina to the top of the ranks, trailed by Ohio State and Florida.

Here are the changes (Irish Envy Official Offers only) from the previous Scout 100 to the current ranked Scout 100. Some of them are quite surprising considering Scout's usual under rating of ND recruits.

New To The Scout 100:

ND Commits
Anthony McDonald
Darius Fleming
Sean Cwynar

Other Commits
Jake Stoneburner-OSU
Trev Robinson-Nebraska
Ben Habern- Oklahoma

Uncommitted
Chancey Aghayere
Ethan Johnson
Sam McGuffie
Brandon Moore
Matt Patchan
Etienne Sabino
Andrew Sweat

3 ND offers dropped off the Scout 100 list, 2 of them quite surprising in Jonathan Baldwin and Kyle Long. The third one was Dan McCarthy. However, all three received 4 stars, so they are still not too far from the Top 100.

Jason, I missed a week, when did North Carolina enter the fray, has he visited there yet, and do you know whether he has established a firm announcement time ala Brendan Beal.

North Carolina entered in a couple weeks ago. He didn't have much to say about them so I don't think they are a heavy contender yet, we'll see in a few weeks if they remain on his list. I do not know if he has visited UNC, I don't think he has, but I also haven't been able to catch up with him for a few weeks with the exception of our conversation a couple days ago. Andrew says he wants to announce as early as May, hinging on a final visit to Notre Dame. Things seem as open as they began in my opinion.

I would actually expect John Goodman to get 4 stars. He's ranked 15th on Scout's Top 100 of the Midwest and the first 29 players on the list have either gotten 4+ stars or haven't given been a real rating yet.

Also of note, the first player to receive 3 stars on the list was Braxton Cave who was ranked 30th so he could be considered a "high" 3 star and could potentially be bumped up in the future.

Poz is a 4*. His current rating has a lot to do with his prior injury. I have zero doubts about his ability.

To paraphrase Brady, he basically told the guys, including Hafis Williams, that ND is a unique place because of the tradition and the fact that education is truly taken seriously. If you really want to go to college for higher learning and to learn football from a great system and a great coach then come to Notre Dame, if you don't feel like you can fit into that tradition and can not be yourself here, then don't come to Notre Dame. It was basically a CW recruiting speech, but because it came out of BQ's mouth, it left a very favorable impression on Williams, who was already a fan of the tradition aspect of ND. Hafis even talked about the Grotto and the march of the team across campus to the stadium, and may have left campus with an even more favorable opinion of the University than the football program which he also had nothing but positive things to talk about. He wants to come back for an Official Visit during a fall game.
