In the spirit of threads started by Óglaigh_na_hÉireann, who do you guys take in this one?

Series Record: Texas leads 55-39-5 (as of 2004)

Trophy: The Golden Hat

Notes: The game is also known as "The Red River Shootout". There is another interesting thing to play for in this rivalry--the winning team's state gets supposed ownership of the Red River for one year until the next game. It's also one of the longest-played rivalries on a neutral field: the last non-neutral field game was in 1922. These two teams play in Dallas, Texas, every year during the week of the Texas State Fair. Dallas is exactly halfway between Austin, Texas, and Norman, Oklahoma, the sites of the two schools.

I lived in Dallas for 8 years...this is PHENOMENAL rivalry. It is the only college football game that I know of where you will see grandmothers in the stands cussing!

On top of that, it is played every year in October during the TX state fair. The winning fans go storm the state fair while the losing fans go home.

Great game!

I always rooted for Texas in these games before they won the national title. I'll probably root for Oklahoma this year, though, just because they are the under-dog.

Still, I've rooted for Texas more often, so I'll go with them.

Every so often, a team is determined to be unstoppable and the greatest ever. Both of these teams have beaten such a paper champion in recent years, with Texas obviously being the most recent. However, Texas was expected to be there all along and came in with a stocked and highly touted roster.

When Stoops' team upset one of the "greatest ever" in Florida St, it was with a swarming aggressive defense but also with less blue chip pro prospects than most national title teams have (at least at the offensive skill positions) OU seemed to come out of nowhere that year. I thoroughly enjoyed watching that game and since then I have favored OU over Texas. Not that I am a big fan of either.

Texas, great state, great food, great beef, and Austin might be the best college town in America.
Lots of high-tech companies, down-home live music and the cervezas, my God the cervezas.

Austin is where I live and its pretty nice. The only thing that sucks now is I have to deal with all these bandwagon UT fans here. For example, many people here at my work never even wore Texas colors but after the Rose Bowl they are the team's biggest fans. I love quizzing them on the current and past players and proving in front of everyone that they are a joke. I would like for OU to win this one to shut these people up.

Maybe I was under the wrong impression of what these polls were asking. I thought they were asking which team you prefer over the other, meaning which one are you more likely to root for. And not which team do you think will win.

As a kid, OU was my 2nd favorite team behind Miami. So, OU as my favorite. But I think Texas will win this year.

You were correct. That was the original intention.

So the intention of the question did change at some point? I wonder where that happened.

Don't ask me, I just spend all of my waking time here. That doesn't mean I can make sense of the place. :eek:grin:

Since OU has Adrian Peterson...and he could be a Heisman contender and take votes from Brady Quinn--my vote would be for UT.

Nice. You took the OU-UT post and turned it around to Notre Dame. Welcome aboard. Rep points right off the bat.
