Our secondary has been bad for a few years. Richardson, Ndukwe, Lambert are all tough gritty guys but they don't have the talent to compete with top ten teams.

When Walls, McNeil, Gray, Brown and hopefully Smith, Williams and a few other guys we'll have a better assesment of Minter then. Right now its tough because clearly the talent isn't their.

No. The talent is also lacking. But other lesser talented teams put up a better fight than this. Poor coaching hurts. Lesser talent hurts. Putting the two together is devastating.

yeah, we did look pretty bad on PASS DEFENSE. Especially in the 1st quarter. But in all actuality, our defense the rest of the game wasn't too shabby. When USC scored their last offensive touchdown, David Bruton looked atrocious. I thought our D-line looked pretty good. Brockington is the biggest overacheiver I have seen since Joey Getheral. I honestly would rather see Travis Thomas playing Tail Back in these big games. When was the last time he did ANYTHING on the defensive side of the ball?

All in all, we played a team that is and will be better than us for a few years. Rhema couldn't catch the big passes, Samardzja was a non-factor, Darius is too small to play against big teams, and our O-line just plain sux. Hats off to USC, they deserve to play in the National Championship. USC was the better team.

AMEN TO THAT. MINTER SUCKS GET ME A MAN WITH EXPERIENCE THAT HAS HAD GREAT DEFENSES. Minter can't even do crap with the players he has on campus. The man has to go. Because maybe with a new Defensive Coordinator will help us get big time defensive recruits and have opponents say "Ohh Crap the Irish are gonna be like the Steel Curtain or the Purple People Eaters" Thats what I want. And they play like it too.

Bah...I don't buy into that. Minter tells the guys to wrap up...they don't. He tells them to cover, they lose ground.

Don't forget that most of the guys in the backfield on D were not recruited to be what they are...or were not that good to begin with. Ndukewe (3-star WR), Richardson (2-star WR), Lambert (3-star DB), Brockington (3-star), Travis Thomas (3-star RB), David Bruton (3-star DB), Crum (3-star LB).

Guys who were expected to be better:
Ambrose Wooden (4-star DB)
Tommy Zbikowski (4-star QB/Ath)

The line SHOULD be better:
Victor Abiamiri (5-star DE)
Derek Landri (4-star OL)
Trevor Laws (4-star DT)

Would be nice to have Top10 talent too. But as of right now our talent on D is below the Top25. Nearly all of the guys who are not freshman are 3-stars or worse.

We can compete with most of the top 10 teams this year. There are probably only 3 teams in the country that would make us look this bad and we played two of them this year, and the other one we played in the Fiesta Bowl last year. Besides OSU, UM, and USC I think we can hang with anyone. ND is just so lacking in talent right now its hard to play and win with the absolute elite teams in the country. In 3 years we make a legit title run and we will be then what USC is now, winning or playing for NC every year and having good talented depth where we never rebuild just reload. The future is bright its just going to take time.

The games against OSU,scUM and SCum show how far we have to go to get to the top. With what we have leaving this year,it doesn't look all that bright for next year. I think you will see a lot of freshman and sophmores on the field next year

Seriously. Think about it. His defenses are always good and aggressive. The defense has not been the problem lately.

He would set up strong recruiting ties to South Florida. And while I hate to play this card, he is African American. Suddenly ND would have AA coordinators on both sides. Which would be a good way to combat some of the negative recruiting.

He should be available, unless the new guy at Miami keeps him. But what if ND swept in with some dough and got to him first? Unless contract is an issue, that is.

We have one of the best secondary coaches in the entire business and he could not mold them into something better.
