From Sundays Press Conference

Q. What about this year, you have a full length of the recruiting cycle. Do you plan recruiting week and say I'd like to get these guys in December rather than in January when the weather is really bad?

COACH Charlie Weis: Actually we're planning more junior stuff in January to tell you the truth because there's not going to be much action left to be honest with you. Most of our action is going to take place in the first couple weeks in December.

Q. In terms of recruiting, too, do you pay attention to how the guys that you've already got commitments from are doing in their high school seasons or are you focused on the guys you don't have?

COACH Charlie Weis: As a matter of fact, in the next 24 hours I intend to talk to every guy that obviously we can't go into any detail, but every guy who's already coming, today and tomorrow, talk to all of them.

Rumor of two new verbals. One's supposed to be a LB.

I think it is Morrice Richardson. BGI has been talking about this for a little over a week.

A Pair of "10's" for Richardson
By Steve Hare

When Morrice Richardson made an unofficial visit to South Bend for Notre Dame's classic showdown with No. 1 Southern California, the 6-foot-2, 228-pound linebacker from Atlanta, Ga., was awed by what the Irish did on the field and what they had to offer off of the gridiron.

This weekend Richardson made his official visit to Notre Dame and despite not seeing a top-ranked opponent, the Irish still impressed the standout linebacker. The four-star prospect gave both Irish visits a 10.

"It was just as good," Richardson said when asked to compare his two visits to Notre Dame. "I got in on Saturday morning and went to the game. After that I got to hang out with (current Irish linebacker) Maurice Crum, Jr. and took a tour; it was a nice visit."

The only difference between his unofficial and official visits to Notre Dame was the opportunity to meet with the coaching staff on Sunday.

"I met with coach (Bill) Lewis and coach (Charlie Weis) this time," he said. "They told me things about the school and how I would fit in. It was a solid weekend."

Richardson's next official visit is a Nov. 25 stop in Gainesville when Florida hosts Florida State. But, that visit apparently won't be a factor in determining which school he'll attend as he has indicated that his choice has already been made.

"I made my decision," he said. "But, I'm not ready to announce it yet. I don't like the spotlight so I don't think I'll have a press conference."

When Richardson does make his decision public he'll choose from among Florida, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

I had heard Richardson but figured you would provide substance rather than rumor.

Rumors are flying about Richardson, Richard Jackson, Reuland and Chris Stewart.

I'm tuning it all out until the announcements. There is too much out there and too many names floating around according to the BGI staff.

Per Jason Sapp, BGI:

jackson is a great WR, although I feel austin is slightly better in certain aspects of his game even though he is undersized...

but it is just difficult for me to see the staff taking another WR with three currently in the 2006 class and after the staff has told a current commit that they weren't looking for any more wide receivers

but, you guys have access to all the sites and I don't, so they obviously might know something that I don't

i do agree in that it's not reuland, although the commitment may be coming soon after this visit, but i figured he would want to wait until the AA game as he said before, and there's no rush in him choosing as the scholarship offer isn't going anywhere

richardson has already stated that he would be prepared to announce after the visit, but doesn't want to have a press conference at this point so that is why i wouldn't think it would be him this friday having a presser on espnu

stewart has been kinda quiet lately, but already has said that he may be prepared to commit this week before his Ole Miss visit so he is a possibility

jackson has said to one of our writers that he doesn't want to announce until after his miami visit, although he has been there on a couple unofficials...but his season did end this past weekend and he may be ready to make a decision if he already knows where he wants to go since that is his main focus now

You can never have enought receivers, especially when Weis is your coach, he always does a great job of spreading the ball around..

Yes you can...and that's when you don't have enough corners.

I was just thinking that last year at this time I was groaning and moaning, looking forward to another lousy recruiting class. We know this class will be good but will it be #1? Maybe not but C-dub is already working on the Junior class and he will be hard to beat.

we will probably finish around 3 or 4 maybe even 5...at that point though the talent is about equal and a wash, the rest of the success is dependant upon coaching

Another "rumor" for Jiggs to confirm.

I know the individual who wrote this. He's a 50ish long time ND fan not into idle recruiting speculation. I just put Chris Stewart on my verbal list. Now to get him admitted early.

I would not post this if I didn't trust my source. Two guys that actually work for me gave me a heads up this morning on Chris Stewart the Blue Chip 6-5 320 pound OL high school prospect from Klein HS here in Houston.
One of my guys brother had free tickets to the Texas/Kansas scrimmage Saturday. Stewart's high school coach sat behind them and they heard them talking so the conversation got around to asking the head coach if he had any D-1 prospects and he responded with "yes we have a very highly recruited lineman named Chris Stewart that is going to Notre Dame." Hopefully we can take the head man's comments and have a commit soon which has been speculated on the Irish boards. My other guy that works for me went to the same high school and played basketball with the kids older brother so he knows the family. Chris Stewart was the schools homecoming king this year, has very good grades and from what I'm told comes from a great family. In short a ND kid all the way so keep the fingers crossed this pans out and we get a good Texan in the fold to add to an already impressive recruiting class for Charlie and the staff.

Again, Richardson, Jackson, Smith and Stewart's names are all being mentioned.

Things will be picking up again shortly. Some of the boys on the ND list will be deciding soon.

I don't think there's any doubt that Texas will be number one.

You'll see the SC and FSU types come in with 11th hour commits and sign a big time class. Because of this, I could see ND being Top 10 hands down, with top 5 capabilities.

The important thing is that they are addressing key needs (O Line, DBs) and the stars by the kid's name are trivial with this coaching staff.

Once the line falls into place, this will be quite an offense down the road some day.

Agreed--If you count the stars (and that's how these classes are rated) Texas is way ahead. While SC doesn't have many recruits now we know they will finish strong and FSU is notorious for the 11th hour surge. Regardless of where ND finishes we have regained our stature as a recruiting power--The future looks brighter all the time.

Richardson is in. Jackson and Stewart announce tomorrow. Reuland and Smith could be within the month.

I just hope ND bags them all.

He's Irish.

Carufel is all but Irish. Sam Young is a very strong lean right now. Stewart will announce today.

Defensive tackle is all that's left.

Recruiting moves back to forefront
ERIC HANSEN Tribune Staff Writer

There will be no quiet moment of celebration with a cup of flavored coffee for Charlie Weis. There will be no mini-vacation, no deep breath, no introspection.

The moment the sixth-ranked Notre Dame football team (8-2) finishes its tussle with Stanford (5-5) tonight in soon-to-be-made-over Stanford Stadium, recruiting kicks back into overdrive.

Yes, even with 22 verbal commitments already secured more than two months before the Feb. 1 signing date.

The Notre Dame first-year head coach showed the same kind of effort last winter when garnering just 15 signees after being named to the post in mid-December. But he refused to take roster filler just to make the class look bigger, and he didn't neglect juniors, no matter how busy he was chasing down seniors.

The groundwork helped make what is currently ranked as the nation's No. 2 recruiting class, per analyst Tom Lemming, possible.

"We're light years ahead of where we were last year when I took the job," Weis said. "And it's for three reasons.

"We've been able to establish relationships that last year did not take place.

"We're winning, and kids look at that.

"There's now a familiarity with our program. It's the same school, but it's a different program, so it's just a question of whether people want to buy into it or not, because it's not for everybody."

ND's next official visit window is Friday night, when the Irish hold their annual football banquet. Former Irish coach Lou Holtz is the guest speaker.

OL Jim Barrie slid out of the ND picture per reports a couple of weeks ago as ND Ol slots were filling up. Now he's a Gator.

4-star lineman commits
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mark Wheeler GatorBait.net

Although the Gators were a little late to the party, only coming through with an offer about a month ago, Florida was able to continue on it's incredible recruiting roll today with the commitment of 4-star, Rivals250 offensive lineman Jim Barrie. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman out of Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep decided today that Florida was the place for him.
