Coming into this recruiting season, I think the biggest areas of need were the offensive and defensive lines. It was also necessary to get some depth at QB, but I would argue that quality linemen are more important.

The Irish have brought in a lot of talent at Linebacker the past few classes, and the defensive backfield should continue to be a strength of the defense. The D-Line, however, has typically been a spot where Notre Dame has struggled to land, (at least enough of) the elite prospects. This recruiting season has been a pleasant surprise for D-Line recruiting thus far, with both depth and star power at DE, (I'm especially excited about Chris Martin), and potential at DT (with encouraging news recently about J.R. Ferguson).

The O-Line really needed some Tackles, but it looks like the Irish have whiffed on most of their top targets. I was hoping that the Irish could snag Seantrel Henderson, but he appears to be favoring programs that are a little further along, (Ohio State, USC, Florida). They also missed on Hurst, who I thought would naturally show more interest being from Indiana. I know they have a commitment from Christian Lombard, but I'm scared that Matt James will pick Cincinnatti, and Erik Kohler looks like he'll go to Washington. Brandon Linder is still on the board, but it's too early to tell where he's leaning. Is anybody else worried about O-Line recruiting? I think this is a really important position. The Irish are loaded at the offensive skill positions, but they won't be able to showcase that talent without a solid Offensive Line.

Ha, I was just looking at '09 profiles. Last year the prospect I wanted most was Xavier Nixon...kinda like Seantrel this year.

I'm personally very worried about O-Line recruiting. But it's also still very early. If we win, they'll come. No use getting worked up about it now, because almost all of our guys are waiting to take OV's before they decide, save for Kohler, who's going to UW most likely anyways. Last night I heard Kevin Costner's dad whispering in my head:

"Win it, and they will come." So I'm not going to worry until we lose our first game. Then, it's on...

The firing of Latina seems to have hurt us on the recruiting trail. This is most evident in Hurst. He grew up in the south, but Latina had him eyeing the Irish. Sentreal sucks but other than him going to a pipeline school and being friends with Floyd, i am not suer how much interest he showed.

Matt James recently said he will hold off and take his OV's which should help out the Irish. James Stone appears to have real interest and Linder is a real possibility. I am pretty nervous just because of how few prospects we have out there. We really can't afford to miss on anyone this year so hopefully a strong year works this out

I agree; I think it can play out nicely if the wins roll in. Line play is pretty much one of the last positions that CW can play the you-can-step-in-and-start-card to recruits.

when I think about it, most lineman dont play their FR year. So we should (I laugh as I typed that) already have the next batch of lineman on the roster, yea? I know there is always a possibility as freshman can come in, but not likely; and certainly not more than one. I couldnt imagine seeing 2 freshman lineman starting for ND. Unless they were the Lebron James' of OLinemen.

Well Jimmy was the Lebron of Football but we have some depth on the line but after this season we are very thin at Tackle.
