Got a kick out of this info:

Rick Minters last two games as defensive coordinator at Notre Dame Rockne Stadium:

2005 -Mich St. 44-41 loss where the Irish trailed 38-17, take the lead (41-38) only to lose on last play of the game.

1993 - BC 41-39 loss where the Irish trailed 38-17, take the lead (39-38) only to lose on the last play of the game.

Eerie.

Cue Twilight Zone theme.

But Minter didn't fumble at the goal line nor throw the returned INT for TD, a 14 point swing. Without either of those two plays ND wins in regulation outscoring MSU's 31 points.

In '93 ND's offense slept through the first 49 minutes of the BC game. Minter's boys weren't on the field for the missed ND FG attempt from the 20, nor for the 1Q blocked ND FG attempt that was returned to the ND 15 setting up BC first FG, a 6 point swing. Minter doesn't take the hit for the 15 yard personal foul that put BC in FG range as time expired. Gordon never made a FG from 56 yards out.

In his career at ND Minter is 10-3-1 at home. The tie was the second game of '92 when ND turnovers gave UM 14 points. The third loss was also in '92. ND lead 16-0 after the 1Q then 5 ND turnovers (4 fumbles) Mirer's overthrown passes lead to 33 unanwered points.

In '05 Minter had Zib, Duke, Richardson, and Wooden in the secondary.

In '03 Minter had Burris, Covington, Taylor, and Lane.
In '92 Taylor, Burris, Lane, and Carter.

In Minters defense, he has a guy we recruited as a WR in Wooden playing corner, and Richardson(need i say more). Coaching plays a big part, but you need some talent. Wooden has some potential though.

Just thank God he doesn't have "Toast" Jefferson back there.....they should either BURN that jersey or not allow anyone in the DB to wear it EVER.

You really think it was the jersey?

#15 is one of the best jersey numbers ever at ND. If we burn the jersey we should also burn out your posts.

That was your thought not mine.

I'm aware the jersey was worn well by McDougal and Rossum.

#1 We simply have crap mostly in defense under Ty. There's only so much a guy like Mendoza can do to help. Schemes and systems. Lewis and Minter. I can only think Minter has evolved since last at ND or anywhere. Also Coach Weis can bring in ideas how to attack what Minter sets up and as well pick up the phone and ask guys like Romeo what to do.

#2 I don't expect a 'bleeping' Steel cutain or inpentebrable defense 9 months and 1 day to go after Ty. Roughly as Coach says what we got is what we got..so do the best you can with it. Wishing or looking to 2006 recruits cuts no mustard tomorrow or the rest of this year.

Analogy is if all you have is a small 1970's volswagon vs a 2005 Porsch set up a way to get in front of it. Crash!

Its cool Domer95 I didn't mean to sound so hostile; one great DB and another great return man wore #15 as well as my favorite player and one of ND's underrated QB's of all-time-Pat Terrell wore it and for the most part single handly won the Miami game in '88; McDougal lead the Irish to an 11-1 finish and the cusp of a National Title; Allen Rossum was one of the most dangerous return men ND has had in its history and I believe still holds records for most of those statistical categories. Those were the last 3 players to wear the #15 before Jefferson wore it, so I would say the #15 has caused more good then harm over the past 17 years.

Guys, my post on this info was not a Bash of Minter -- I think he is great and this Irish D is SIGNIFICANTLY better than last years 'soft' D. These guys are making big hits causing turnovers etc.

Didn't take it as a bash but as a snippet from a BGI article.

Tonight was more of the same. Lots of yards but key stops.

Hard to believe we gave up 512 yds and we're elated.

Did Tiller blow another game running the football (1st half) to the detriment of his passing attack?

I thought Richardson played his best game tonight.

Still lots of room for defensive improvement.

Interesting stat: over 100 pass plays by both teams (98 passes and a couple scrambles) - no sacks!

I'm not afraid to say that I'm skeptical of Minter's style. I would like to see ND have a defense that comes out and doesn't give an inch. I look at Ohio State's defense and think that ND can have one like it because the talent will be there in the future with recruiting.

Sooner or later, a good team like USC will come along and not fumble on the goal line or make foolish mistakes. A good defense reacts and makes plays. A GREAT defense makes the offense react to THEM.

Perhaps if Minter and Co. recruit the personnel in, they can build for the future.

Yeah, but Rick does still need the horses. I mean, there's only so much you can do w/ Richardson & Wooden as your corners. If his defense continues to give up big yards after they get a couple 4 and 5 star recruits back there, then I'll be worried. I think he's doing about the best he can w/ what he's got.

I watched the tape of the game yesterday. ND defense HITS people. Anyone note that the sideline reporter gave updates on two Purdue players leaving the game with injuries? One offense, one defense.

They've been knocking people out since Pitt. I love it.

I actually think Wooden is playing well.
