Honestly no reason to go hard after one this cycle given there should be four on scholarship next year. Barring transfers.
But back to reality, ND needs to recruit a QB have him enroll last summer, and have him named starter 4 weeks ago.

That is why I said barring transfer. If no one transfers, four will be on scholarship. Unless Kelly sees absolutely no way that Crist will contribute to the team and denies him a 5th year. Once again, that is barring any of them want to transfer.

that was why I created the thread.. just a gut feeling, and my personal opinion, but I could see Hendrix transferring if he isn't granted an opportunity this year.. was wondering if we had any outstanding scholarships out there to any QBs who still may be considering us, that's all.. didn't want to bring the Rees vs. Everyone debate over here, was just curious as to our stance with a QB for the '12 cycle.. thanks for anyone who has answered/has answers to come, appreciate it

I am just saying because as of right now he is still on the team with no indication of transfering. So I don't want to just assume he is transfering without knowing him personally. So with that said there will be four QBs on scholarship next season as of right now, if everything goes that way.
But next season is a long way away to really know what will happen. This season is a long way from over. Heaven forbid Rees gets injuried, Crist steps in and leads the team to a BCS bowl or a highly touted bowl game. Then things change but no way to know until this season unfolds.

great point. I was just a huge Dayne Crist fan and i think he got a raw deal. But ill support Tommy Rees cause he can ball.

I agree with the bolded part to an extent. I was a fan of Crist too, he has all the measurables that a coach could hope for. He just looks like a top notch QB.
Then again I am not Coach Kelly and don't see what happens behind closed doors. I won't put out made up scenarios about him considering I do not know the truth. But the coaches must have seen something that they wanted out of him that they thought he did not exude so he was on a short leash to begin with.
Who knows.

when do they decide if he will get a 5th year? Is that before NSD? So, I guess to further elaborate, let's say he decides to transfer, do we have any QBs we are keeping in contact with for this very reason? I think we'd have to secure a 3* or something just to keep 4 on the roster.. hopefully BK and Co. are still recruiting the QB position because I think it's valuable to bring 1 QB in per cycle, just incase scenarios play out such as Crist (or Hendrix) transferring.. we'd really be SOL if both decide to, but I like to think of myself as a "half-full" kinda guy

I will try to answer as best as possible, let's say Crist does not apply for his 5th year and transfers somewhere else to get a shot. That leaves Rees as the proven starter, Hendrix as the viable backup and Golson as the "QB of the future". Let's not forget Massa came in as a QB and he could be the emergency guy, like Goodman was at one point.
I don't know if it is a must to get a QB this cycle, but if Kelly feels he needs to then so be it. I think things will all work out though.

You always need to recruit who you can get but right now they are pretty set with QB's. The guys you havent even seen yet will be good and the 2 guys we've seen are good enough to get the job done. In college and especially under Kelly the other needs come first. This offense does not need a pro prospect Qb it needs a guy with a little ---- and vinegar in his veins and a leader. Notre Dame is never going to be wanton for a QB-win and they will come. My only concern is that at Cinn he had guys that could run for yardage when needed and I think thats the only thing that is holding Kelly's plans back-thats why the two kids are going to be important. I like Rees alot but next year he may share time with one of the young guys that run well.
