First road game out of the way. If the o-line can open some holes than we're going to roll Purdue. If they don't it will be a tight game but ND will win!!!

We undoutedly have a good shot at this. Purdue just struggled mightly with Central Mich...they did take Oregon to OT, so they have the ability to play well.

I think ND pulls it out by 3.

I will be there too...my first home game since 1997, so they better not screw it up... ;)

For us to win this game Clausen needs to take better care of the ball. He's averaging 2 picks a game, he must improve. Having said that, I think we come out next week on a mssion and beat the Broilermakers.

This will be an interesting game. We just got our first loss of the season and it will be interesting to see how this team reacts. Need the win to keep the momentum up. I expect a much better performance out of the offense in general. If we are ever going to get pressure on the opposing QB, this is the game to do it.

GO IRISH!!!

Like all our past games this season, I expect a close mistake filled game. We aren't good enough to blow out bad teams yet, and we certainly aren't good enough to blow out average teams like Purdue.

I see a game with scoring in the high teens to low 20s. I can see either team taking it.

yeah the line has to open some running lanes for our backs and clausen needs to be able to feel the pocket around him. he ran into a sack yesterday and with time and experience he will learn that but he has to learn he cant throw 2 picks every ganme and expect to really be a threat

For ND to win next week we have to have a better running game and Clausen needs to have less picks. I am still waiting for that explosive game to come out of ND and it needs to come fast. How about against Purdue: ND- 31 and Purdue- 17.

I think this is the most important game on our schedule this year. If there is such thing as a swing game, this is it. I think ND comes out much like they did vs Michigan, with alot of emotion. Now I dont expect Purdue to fumble the game away, I do expect ND to come out with fire in their eyes. If we can establish a running game and limit the mistakes, this game will have a final score similar to that against Michigan. That being said, I think we will win somewhere along the lines of 35-24. But we will see what this team is made of this week.

this game is tough to call, but we are at home and we play much better at home than we do away so, i say we win this one close 28-24 and the blowout will be the week after when stanford rolls into town.

ND wins! Time to get that rushing offense up and keep Painter off the field. Tenuta figures out how to pressure him when he IS on the field.

ND 24-13.

i am not buying the "establish the run" mindset. spread the field and get our weapons involved. the run will open up by default. quinn and company passed to set up the run and that's kind of what we need to do right now. we are what we are and we need to accept that and go with our strengths.

Yeah, you may be right. I am just old-school and am still a bit shocked that with the size of our line and the type of runner that Hughes is that we still can't wear down a defense and control the game. Much like Mich. ST did to us.

I think the deep ball will be there all season, but if we can't run the ball who knows how effective it will be.

believe me, i'd love to pound the ball, control clock and play action deep or down the seam all day long but for some reason we're not opening up the holes like we're capable of doing. we seem to have more success through the air as evidenced by michigan first quarter and 2nd half MSU.

not a bad point, spread everyone out, and after establishing the pass hit them with some draws and misdirections. most run to set up the pass, lets just do the opposite. we wouldnt be the first team to do so.

I would like to see the offense use the middle of the field more. Either with the run or the pass. Clausen can throw the most dangerous pass (for interceptions) better than anyone, (the out) so why not use the middle of the field? Dont they have a highly touted tight end? I think the offense is close to being more than formidable. They just have to get defenses guessing instead of blitzing and covering the sideline pass.

YES. YES. YES. YES. YES.

Everything you just said is exactly what we need to do. Succinct and precise.

The second page of this thread and the associated posts couldn't be more bang on. The most frustrating part of the game yesterday, IMO, wasn't the mistakes or the offensive line play or the defense. It was the fact that it was glaringly obvious that we could not run the ball yet Haywood called for three straight runs to open the game and three more on the second possession. Those six runs netted us no yardage. The first drive of the game and the first possession after half time are tone setting possessions. When you come out and get stonewalled trying to run and continue to attempt to run it's frustrating. I don't know why we insist on trying to run. It's maddening. Coach may have turned the play calling over to Haywood but it looks like Haywood is using the exact same script.

Well, this will be a close one. ND must find a way to win in the running game. If ND takes care of the ball, we win, if not......I will exploded into pieces.

I am making the journey from Atlanta and taking my wife to her first game, so they better win.

Kerry Neal has a big game and someone in the running game bust a big one. Jonas!!
