Three Notre Dame alumni were among the 76 players on the 2016 College Football Hall of Fame ballot released Tuesday morning.
Current defensive backs coach and two-time All-American cornerback Todd Lyght is included on the ballot, in addition to Raghib 'The Rocket' Ismail and former linebacker Bob Crable.
Lyght started at cornerback during Notre Dame's national championship-winning season in 1988. He totaled 11 interceptions in his collegiate career before moving on to a 12-year NFL career. His time in the professional ranks included a Super Bowl ring with the St. Louis Rams.
Widely regarded as the most electrifying return man in program history, Ismail finished as Heisman Trophy runner-up to BYU quarterback Ty Detmer in 1990. Ismail averaged nearly 28 yards per kick return, 13.4 yards per punt return and took a total of five kick offs to the end zone--including two in one game against Michigan. He also returned one punt for a touchdown and led the Irish to two Orange Bowls and a Fiesta Bowl.
Crable played for the Irish from 1978-82 and was twice a consensus first-team All-American (1980, '81). He set programs records for tackles (521), most tackles in a season (187) and tallied 26 tackles in one game.
