Predictions....

Just want some general predictions from everybody on how you think this yeatrs squad will do? By that meaning records, upset games and just general information on your knowledge on how our top players will perform. Personally I think in reality we will win 8 games this season. But we definately are capable of winning more, depends on how the players respond to coach weis and his new schemes. Personally I think Coach Weis is the answer to us fans prayers and I think he will help get the Irish back on the map, and I think it won't take him very long to get it goin under the Golden Dome.

I think 9-10 wins(I'm optimistic), all the ones we should win and one or two we shouldn't...ie. USC, Tennessee or Michigan!

We'll see.

I'm going with 7-4 or 8-3 just because of our depth concerns at OL and in the secondary. If we can keep healthy and we execute, I can see 9-2.

I am only worried about Michigan, Tennessee, and USC. However,
Weis and company of two weeks to prepare for both Tenn and USC. We will win one of those games....if I were to chose I would want the USC do to recent history, plus the emphasis on the recruits in the stands that day.

my guess would be 7-4 or 8-3. I'll be honest, anything more than 8 wins this year and I'll be very suprised (but ecstatic as well). I think he'll have the team back to consistent 9-11 win seasons year in and year out within a couple years though...

Lose to Michigan, Purdue and USC.

Win the rest. 8-3 and hopefully a bowl victory as well.

You know, I'd probably predict a 7-8 win season this year, but why does everyone assume that michigan will be one of our losses? i understand that they're an exceptional team this year, but if we've had any luck in recent years in the david and goliath matchups, it's been against michigan. i think a lot of people underestimate how motivated the Irish are when they play michigan. IMO, if i'm going to "assume" some losses this year, michigan isn't one of them. southern cal, purdue and tennessee are my biggest fears.

ND, as it stands now, matches up horribly with Michigan. ND defense vs. their offense doesn't get me excited at all.

The game is in Ann Arbor too, which gives them a big edge. It won't be 38-0, but I'd say there could be some problems in this game.

i know, i know...you're right - the matchup favors u-m. i've just been conditioned over the years to never assume that a michigan win is a foregone conclusion.

"It's tough making predictions, especially about the future"

Momentum will be the key to this season. Losses to Pitt, Mich St. would be morale killers. Right now this team believes in itself and it's coach. They stop believing if the results aren't there.

Looking at the schedule they could win or lose every game by a field goal. And confidence wins close ballgames. Winning a couple close ones early will pay off in games down the road.

Just so I can look like a complete idiot at the end of the season, I give you my game by game predictions

Pitt - Irish hammer 'em. Wannstedt has Pitt run the ball 60 times instead letting Palko and Lee do their thing.

UofM - Irish upset, special teams play wins it.

Mich St. Irish win just because I'm in the stands.

Wash. - Huskies get neutered.

Purdue - Irish in a close one.

USC - 1st loss but not the ass kicking they got the last couple years

BYU - Mormons get converted

Tenn. - Bad weather slows the Vols Irish pound out a win

Navy - The streak continues

Syracuse - The Orange get squeezed

Stanford - CW schools ‘em

There it is 11-1, and BCS berth (even though the BCS sucks). Ya gotta believe.

You guys predicting 9-2, what are you thinking? None of CW's recruits are on campus yet. The power of blind optimism.

If I were you, in addition to the obvious (Michigan-USC-Tennessee), I'd be worried about the ROAD games at Pitt, Washington, & Purdue.

4 of the first 5 games are on the road, and the 6th game, at home, is against USC.

Of the first five game, the closest there is to a "Guaranteed Win" in Michigan State in South Bend. And we all know how the Irish have fared against the Spartans of late.

6-5 with a trip to the Crapola Bowl, or maybe 7-4.

Charlie's great, but players are what matters most.

The Michigan matchup will be intersting, luckily we were able to move that pitt game up. We play Pitt, they probably play some div 2 school first( i dunno who do they play before us) Michigan wants us off their schedule for a reason. We beat them just as much as they beat us.

Im not expecting a win, but I doubt you'll see a blowout...

Ya gotta believe, eh? Believing doesn't make the tooth fairy real...

I gotta believe you've been smokin' the rock if you think the Irish are going 11-1.

Seven wins and this Irish team will have over-achieved.

At every level of football, O-line play is crucial. When you're up against big-time passing attacks like USC, Michigan, and Pitt (given it current QB), defensive backs are crucial.

The thinnest places on THIS Irish team (not the ones CW is recruiting for the future)? O-Line and DBs.

It's going to be a great season, not because of some pie-in-the-sky win total, but because things are finally on the right track. Even I gotta believe something!

I say 8-3 with losses to Michigan and USC and one other loss. We have trouble stopping the pass. Does anyone disgree with that?

ok fella's yes indeed Charlie Weis is not playing with any of his recruits but I will say I think Tyrone Willingham may have gotten some good recruits. Darius Walker is a prme example. I think Tyrone did the recruiting part ok, but now Coach Weis is here and can actually teach those players his guidelines of football and be more successful......but i am saying 8-3 or 7-4 and a decent bowl game. But hey our irish have been known to suprise us before, lets just hope they suprise us for the better

While they will probably not go 11-1, let's remember a few things: They outplayed Purdue and still got crushed, had HORRIBLE coaching against BC and Pitt, and beat Michigan and Tennessee last year. Again, you are what you are, but who on the schedule has a definite matchup edge? UM, SC and Tennessee. Two of those games are at home.

Every game is tough. ND always gets everyone's best. The only game bigger for Navy is Army. Stanford is always up for ND and you KNOW Washington will be.

7-4 is realistc and 6-5 is likely. I'm not sure 7-4 is overachieving for this group. 8 wins or more definitely is.

But 7-4, 8-3 are such safe predictions... If you don't have money on it you might well go out on a limb.
