I thumbed thru the Lindy's & Athlon's college football preview mags today. Lindy's had ND ranked 38 in their preseason poll. Athlon projected ND's '07 slate as follows: 5 wins, 5 losses & 2 toss-ups.

The 5 wins: MSU, Stanford, Navy, Air Force, Duke
The 5 losses: GT, PSU, UM, USC, UCLA
toss-ups: BC & Purdue

Both mags had USC as their preseason favorite to win the NC. Outside of the top 3, both polls differed quite a bit (imagine that!). Athlon's had GT in their top 25 & Lindy's had BC in their top 25.

I can't remember these mags coming out as early as now. Usually it's around July.

He thinks we lose to GT? we win atleast 8 this year

I agree ND23, the team will be hungry this year, they're not respected by the media, they will be more agressive on D and that will translate into an unexpected (by media expectations) 8-win season. Let's not forget how bad ND was supposed to be 2-years ago with their schedule - - I recall ND would be lucky to have 1 win in the first 6 games by most analysts and they pulled out 9 wins for the season. Go Figure.

Yeah, people think the schedule eraly is gonna hurt, I think it could help, WE are the team with a new d scheme this year... having most of our tough games early could help a great deal, Mich, GT, and PSU won't have much film to work with and there you have that, we take two of those three games watch...

GT does have that addition by subtraction thing going on. Ball sucked, but he graduated. Losing CJ will obviously hurt.

GT's new QB looks to be promising going into next season. He played well in their bowl game & can apparently sling the ball around w/ success...unlike Reggie Ball. Their D will continue give people fits b/c they have some key players coming back & a helluva DC in Tenuta...that's one scheming mother!

I think, Charlie will use all of that stuff to his advantage. Plus, I have always believed that these are the years to watch out for ND. We are counted out before the season starts, we have no stars and the schedule looks bad. Look at the predictions for 1988 and 1993 and the predictions weren't that favorable and the same things were being said. I hope I am right and we make all the naysayers eat their words!

The offense will have some growing pains, but I expect the D to be WAY better. If we only win 5, the D has been disappointing again....
