1. Tommy Rees looked pretty bad tonight. Probably the worst I have seen him, so far. But he's still the best option on the roster. If he wasn't, Kelly would be starting someone else.

2. I was happy to see Kelly come out and establish the run, but I was pretty disappointed in the playcalling. We ran that same misdirection cutback run about a dozen times in the first quarter alone.

3. Congrats to Jonas Gray, who is finally starting to look like the back that many of us hoped he would be.

4. Pretty disappointed that Theo Riddick hasn't been a bigger part of the offense. I'm not sure if he's been open, but is in Kelly's doghouse (making him the 3rd or 4th read on every play), or if he is just struggling to make the transition to WR. Either way, I'd like to see him more involved.

5. I'm getting tired of seeing team's take advantage of our defense's inability to defend the edges. And those underneath routes were killing us, too. Our LBs are just not getting it done.

6. Those were probably the worst announcers I have ever heard. It was almost painful to listen to them.

Didn't Clausen live off campus his first year? I remember his Dad went and bought a home for him right when he committed.

I miss Hammond.

I don't think so. Besides that fact that all Freshman are supposed to live in the dorms, unless their parents are employed by the University, wasn't it his freshman year that he got into a little controversy by driving his roommate and friends to the liquor store?

* Tommy Rees was awful tonight. Still our best option, though.

* Jonas Gray was running exceptionally hard tonight. He's getting better and better every week.

* Cierre Wood's role keeps decreasing. It's a shame, because he does make some great plays.

* Michael Floyd was fairly quiet.

* Theo Riddick was almost silent. Very inconsistent.

* Really hope Jones is alright.

* Eifert was awesome. Gotta love a good tight end.

* Golic did an excellent job filling in for Cave.

* Run blocking was above average tonight. Gray and Wood had to elude too many defenders in the backfield.

* Gotta love the heart and effort from the young defensive linemen.

* Linebackers were horrid today in coverage.

* Secondary did a fine job.

* Robert ****ing Blanton.

* Harrison Smith was all over the place.

* Zeke Motta is absurdly terrible.

* Austin Collinsworth is such an underappreciated special teams player.

I know tons of people who live off campus. He was seriously lying to negative recruit.

Proud of the defense in the second half. Wasnt perfect but I thought they played great. Probably only gave up fifty yards

1. Tommy is a liability!! I don't buy the crap that Kelly does not have options. I believe he is locked in on Tommy regardless. If we get to a bowl against a team with speed, they will pick him all night long. His ball is SO slow. He threw several ugly ducks tonight.

2. Our defense plays such a vanilla scheme that good OC are figuring out Diaco. Our guys looked lost tonight and I blame Diaco.

3. Our cushion zone D is a QB's friend.

4. Injuries are piling up BIG time on us. Cave, KLM, Ethan, TJ, Teo, Lynch. Who else can get banged up??

5. JONAS gets my game ball. He is playing his way into the NFL!! Good for him.

6. Can we please not allow a team to kill us on the edge?!!?!?

7. There was a duck migration spotted over the WF stadium tonight. They were Rees Ducks. A rare breed that flutters into any defenders hand.

I am starting to think that you have a crush on Tommy and that you only spew this **** to throw everyone off the scent.

How many times will QBs escape for a first down? I have no more hair to pull out now.

I'm a student here. Some freshmen even have off campus houses this year that I know. The statements made by the announcer were completely incorrect and made me scream at the tv, can't stand espn.

With everything you say. However, REES needs to quit looking guys down! I think HIS reads are off, not the order. I have been to 2 games this year and thought the same thing.

REES as our best is fine. I trust BK. If we had better he would play them. Next year we will see who is actually better. If REES is our guy, I am behind him. Plenty of time for another guy to step up who hasn't.

pkt,
You are right, I am a Tommy fan all day long. It is really that I cannot accept mediocrity!!! Tommy is so mediocre it is pathetic. The worse part is he is NOT getting better. I challenge ANYBODY to tell me what he is doing better now than earlier in the year???

He throws ugly INT's just like early in the year and his freshman year. Further, he still can't run. Has no more arm strength than before.

1- Tommy is an anchor slowing this ship down.
2- Jonas Gray is a beast.
3- Calabrese/Fox.. I cant wait till neither can suit up anymore.
4- Tuitt/Lynch/Nix, stoked to have these guys for a few more years.
5- Teo seemed to be out of place more then a few times. I think his injury is more severe then they are letting on.
6- I think Wake Forest is a bit better then we gave them credit for. Am I saying they are a great team? No, but they are far from terrible.
7- 6-3 with maryland up next. Time to celebrate till then....
8- Refs missed a few big calls tonight, I was suprised at their inconsistency.

The defensive gameplan to start the game was terrible. Shembo lining up in space on the slot was about the worse possbile matchup I've ever seen.

Coaches made the needed adjustments, but everytime I saw Shembo line up out there I just cringed..

I love Jonas!

Rees was pretty bad, but I am not even gonna start in with that crap again... BK thinks he is the best option, thats all that matters..

Lynch played with the kind of heart and desire that this team needs.

Golic filled in like a CHAMP!! Sr. is one proud father tonight.

Flemming and Blanton were all stars IMO.

Manti struggled to get off blocks moreso tonight than I have ever seen before.

Playcalling was a bit suspect, but again, BK knows what he is doing..

They went on the road, faced a tough opponent ( I don't care what anybody else thinks about that squad, they are good) and pulled out the victory. The "W" is all that matters!

I love those three statements. Lynch has a ton of heart and guts. Blanton and Flemming were stars. Golic Jr did a heck of a job filling in for Cave. This is why I would like to see Golic Jr back for a 5th year. He could start at RG or backup at center or both gaurd postions next year. Also, Tuitt is really good. Tuitt, Lynch and Nix is going to be scary the next couple of years.

-I'm beginning to despise watching Rees play. It's like watching Chad Pennington after he tore his shoulder twice.
-I guess Hendrix was only used to make SC "think" about something else.
-Riddick? No more bubble screens or direct hand offs to get him involved?
-Very uninspired play calling.
-Golic played very well. We have a Center (if Cave doesn't get his 5th) next season!
-I think over all the defense played a very good game.
-Oh for one more year of eligibility for Jonas....

Ok, all the Tommy hate in the game-day thread was a little absurd. He is exactly who we thought he was, and that includes our starting QB. At the start of the season, we had two QBs with problems. For whatever reason, Crist's seemed to have a more negative impact on the team than Tommy's and Kelly made the logical move and went with the QB who got better results.

In other words, Kelly played it safe. Had he stuck with Dayne, he would have been gambling: Dayne's issues were mostly mental (he also struggles with touch, but that's not what got him benched). The reason I wish Kelly had gone with Dayne at the start of the season was that I believed, with a little support and a productive running game, Dayne could overcome those problems and lead a truly fierce offense.

Tommy can not overcome his limitations, at least not this season: they are physical. He's at his best when he's dishing the ball off to ND's great athletes and letting them make the plays. However, his TD pass to Floyd today (which was a great throw) was at the outer edge of his effective range. He'll also struggle with athletic defenses whose players aren't over-matched by our offensive stars.

It is what it is. I wish Kelly had gambled, because this was a season that could have been great, but only if things went great. He didn't, I understand why. So even though I wish I was watching Dayne, I'm not going to bash Tommy because he is our man. And, to be honest, some of the comments were absurd.

That being said, I'm no longer hoping Dayne transfers to a better situation next year. I think its very possible he could put an amazing finish on a hugely disappointing career if he sticks around for one more year.

Tommy just needs reps. He is a true sophmore and will get better over time. He will learn to read the defense better.

We rushed the ball 38 times and held Wake to 3.0 yards a carry.

Defense played great after a shaky start but also created a turnover when it needed to.

This is a process. A win is a win.

We played down to the level of competition in the beginning but the atmosphere, at Wake with the quiet crowd, and being overshadowed with the LSU-Bama game, just made for a get in, win, and get out type situation.

6-3 with a terrible Maryland team up next.

By the way, we did put up 59 and 56 points against the academies. We did beat MSU 31-13. We beat Purdue 38-10 and scored 24 on the road tonight. Struggled but won at Pitt. Stumbled a bit in the beginning but won at Wake.

Still don't see where the doom and gloom attitude is coming from with some people.

I agree. Dayne played well against USC...aside from the fumble. He's a better athlete than Tommy. I'd like to see him get another chance again.

My words exactly.I completely agree.
I've been saying for a while now I'd love to see Dayne REALLY get another shot...not just thrown in cold in a HUGE game at the worst possible time.
Dayne still has a LOT of potential. I understand why some people dislike him...he has made a couple big mental mistakes this season...but he still has a tremendous arm and if he can get some confidence back I think he will be our best chance for next season.
