In the end I think this was NDs first all around complete game.

Jesus, I hate to disagree with a happy phork, but BC had 5 turnovers, and still hung 350 yards on the defense. Not exactly an "all around complete game." I don't want to take anything away from these kids, who fought so hard. But, despite the win, the defense was getting housed for much of the game.

ND has not figured out anything at safety. very happy they won, but they were picking up third and 8s at will.

The only thing more pitiful than our pass defense was...

Barely 300 people showed up at my high school's final home game last night. Senior Night. We usually get 2,000 or more.

Yeah.........she better come out with a nude "spy video", if she wants to save her job. She sounds like a 9th grade girl, with her questions.

"Soo... Charlie. Another close one today, huh?"

"Yes."

"Umm... so, when you ran that play there, the one where the guy got the ball from the other guy, did you feel okay about the outcome?"

"Yes."

"Uhh... umm... Did you fight hard today?"

"Yes"

"What will happen when you are down with time left on the clock?"

"Woman... shut your fucking mouth. I'm going to go sing Alma Mater."

"Ohhhhh Kayyyyy!!!! Back to you guys!"

Good call.

I just got done watching the game on Tivo, and I admittingly haven't read through all the posts yet, just some.

But am I the only one who sees this as a huge let-down game that we pulled off? Look at USC, the last 2 years they played their hearts out on a HUGE game, and then the next week they have a huge letdown against an inferior team and they LOSE. We lost a HUGE game last week, and were within a whisker of perhaps beating our #1 rival. The next week we play another rival that ALWAYS brings their A+ against us, a good-not-great team (like Oregon St and UW), play not-so-great offensively, and still pull out the win, and some people are pissed?

We have issues, but this was the classic let-down game that the team pulled out. The defense actually won a game for us.

I'm not ecstatic, but hell yeah I'm happy that we won! We are in a 6 game tourney for a possible BCS game. Survive and advance this week after the emotional week, get back after it next week and put a pounding on Wazzou, and keep improving. If we win by a small margin next week, then I'm with the pissed off people. But after having to coach today and watching the game on Tivo, too nervous to even drink, I'm going to bust open a Corona and I'm going to enjoy this damn win baby...

Yes. Yes.

It's a great relief to see the offense play poorly (in terms of their ability) and still win the game. That's it. No matter what happens I always say that a win is a win.

Of course I agree that, playing a PATHETIC WAZZOU, the boys need to win BIG next week. I'm talking a 40+ point victory. We need to see this team play to their capability next week--not play up or down to the level of the competition.

I was a miserable the entire game.

Me too! I couldn't bear the thought of losing to those ass-wipes for the 7th time in a row! It's a WIN and that's all that counts. I'm going to the Wash. St. game next week and damnit it better not be a nail biter again! I'm drinking myself to death over these damn games! I want to see a blow out for once!

Additional observations

Additional observations

Congratulations, again, to the team on an incredibly hard fought victory. These kids have shown fantastic resolve, all year long. For those of you who want Weis gone: Winning these games is going to be the difference between getting verbals from Armando Allen and John Goodman types, and getting verbals from Reggie Bush and Percy Harvin types. And, can you imagine those caliber athletes, with the "don't quit" attitude that Weis has these guys buying into? Now, on to the rest.......

1. The offensive line is playing light years ahead of last year, but they are still not there yet. After starting the season with all day long to throw, Jimmy has seen significant pressure recently. The improvement in the line is evident, however, in the running game.

2. The 4th down call. Wow, I don't know what to think about this. When they first lined up to go for it, I was livid, thinking that you should take the 3 pts. But, upon further reflection; you do have a 240-ish pound tailback who should be able to punch it in. Even if he doesn't, you leave them a couple of feet from their own goal line. I'm not upset that he went for it, but I'm unhappy with the call. Putting Robert Hughes in the Wildcat tells the defense that there is about a .00000000000000001% chance of a pass. That let's them sell out completely against the run. Tremendously disappointed with Hughes, on the run, as well. He is 240-ish, and he let a 217 pound safety stone him, despite the fact that the safety was unable to square him up. That play, despite the fact that I don't agree with the call, should have worked for a touchdown.

3. Congratulations to Duval Kamara on a very productive day. Sure, he didn't bust any big plays, but it seemed like every ball he caught was a 8-10 yarder for a first down. Well done, Duval.

4. Our secondary is horrible. I don't even want to hear about the three picks. All three of those balls were poorly thrown balls. They were QB mistakes, not great plays by a DB. The second McCarthy INT, I have to give him credit. He stayed with the ball, as it bounced around in the air, and made the catch. But had the QB not grossly underthrown that ball, McCarthy doesn't even get a chance. If this doesn't get fixed, and soon, every good QB that we play is going to have a field day.

5. Game ball to Armando Allen. Despite the heroics of Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate, Armando Allen is the most improved player on this team. He still isn't a great back, but he has improved by leaps and bounds. I think maybe Weis ought to make all of the DBs "buddy up" with AA, so that maybe some of those obviously good habits will rub off.

1. Agree but they could still get a better push in the running game. We had 50 pounds a man on the BC D-line.

2. I like the 4th down call but AA actually runs stronger than Hughes and he would have been over the goal line before the D got there. Hughes has made some good plays but just looks slow compared to Gray or Allen.

3. What I like about Duval is he didn't fall down after he caught a pass or run out of bounds. If we can continue to build his confidence he will be very good again. His size is awesome and his blocking was solid. Nice to see some other guys get their feet wet.

4. Our secondary is horrible but we keep getting closer to making plays. BS made some great catches and their QB mad some solid throws. Not sure what to do about them.

5. Allen playes great and I would like to see him get the ball 26 times a game plus run the wildcat a few more plays per game.

Added issues:

That was the single worst game of punting I have ever seen. I'm sorry but that kids Turk's punts sucked and lost about 110 net yards of field position. Bring Maust back the Turk experiment has failed.

I think we have had a TD called back in every single game. We are getting the short end of calls on a weekly basis (holding on Fleming and slm to Allen's face?).

Thats what you get when you aren't in a conference unfortunately. (Officials I mean). But seriously, need to hold open tryouts for a punter imo.

This was a very annoying game to watch because they just could not quite get control of the game even when they had some chances, but games like this happen and I'm glad they fought hard and came out with the W at the end which is what matters the most.

The offense was alright not as explosive as usual, but you do have to give BC some credit for that as they pretty much gave the underneath routes away, while taking away the deep ball. Though Allen played well and he has turned into a very good player for us. Golden what more can you ask for he keeps stepping up week after week. Jimmy had a solid game nothing too spectacular, but its fine cause he has been so good this year.

The defense played pretty well, minus the big plays which are very annoying. I think this is a product of both bad coverage at times, and for the most part not a whole lot of pressure. When the defense actually did get some pressure it forced BC into some bad throws and a couple ints ( I think he was pressured on two of those). If the pressure could happen on a consistent basis I bet the secondary would look better. That still does not change the fact that the secondary is still suspect at times.. IMO they really need to play H. Smith close to the LOS for him to be effective at all, he just seems stiff when he is trying to adjust to passes. Teo was great, I love the way he can read plays like the screen pass and is aggressive and just blew it up before it could get going. Like others said KLM is progressing really well and is making plays every week. Flemming can get some good pressure also, but can a brother get a holding call, he was getting mugged and no flag WTF is up with that. Lastly big props to the run D, really took that aspect of the game away from BC.

Can Golden Tate punt, too?

We're using a scholarship on this kid. Are we gong to recruit either a PK or punter every frigg'n year? At least Maust earns his keep with the special plays. We got F'd on the sweet fake FG. As bad as he has punted on occasion it wasn't as bad as what Turk did. Did you see that sorry excuse for a punt on the Safety free kick?

Free Kick

Free Kick

Just watched the free kick 37 yards in the air with no pressure and no hang time. We'll see Maust next week if we need to punt.

One other observation: On the safety, that is all on JC the line was providing good support (huge hole to step up in the middle and make an easy toss to the crossing AA but JC made a horrible decision. We get a couple of breaks in the game and the score is 31-14 or 31-17. At least Tausch keeps making the FG's.
