well im afraid the Irish will not have a physical, running team on offense or be great on defense. I'm afraid it will be more of the same.

What you saw last year at ND was a defensive team that was utterly confused, that took poor angles, that was tired easily, that couldn't tackle in the 2nd half especially, and whose DBs were taught poor technique. A lot of those things are fixable. There are a ton of highly rated guys on that defense that are were playing below capabilities IMO (admittedly, we haven't recruited as well on that side of the ball as on offense).

What you saw at Cincy was a defense that replaced 10 starters (think about that), still was 3rd in the nation in sacks and 10th in the nation in TFL with not nearly the talent ND has, still won every game, played hard for 4 quarters, were in good spots but just didn't have the talent nor the experience to stop good offensive. I've read what qualified coaches have said about the Cinci defense, and they have all said that the defensive scheme was sound, guys were put in good spots, but they just weren't very good.

FL hasn't had a physical running game in years and they've been pretty damn good; same with TX. Bama did fantastic with what they did, but they have a phenominal defense that supports a power running game. Hate to break it to you, but a lot of those guys simply couldn't get into ND. We'll never have that type of completely stifling defense IMO, but we can get much, much better.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree until we see the product on the field...

And I'm afraid that pigeons may fly out of my ass on the second Tuesday of every month. Kelly's spread is pass first. That's the trend in football today. We're not in the Bear Bryant Era. We're not in the Era of Fullbacks being one of the most sought after players on the field. Nowadays, it is speed. Nowadays it is receivers. Nowadays, it's drop back and chuck it. I'm sure Kelly won't abandon the run.

Next, why the hell are you already condemning the D? Give me a freaking break. Wade Phillips, Nick Saben, Pete the Cheat, even Tony Dungy was a young Coordinator once. Give the guy a freaking break. Now, with the swtich back to the 3-4, we can utilize the depth we have at Linebacker now.

We have not been stong at D-Line in the past decade. The 4-3 requires two damn good run stuffing Tackles. We havn't had that. With the 3-4, we have a couple prospects at Nose (Stockton, Nix) and a loaded core of LBs (T'eo, McDonald, Smith, Filer, Poz, et al.). If Slaughter and Motta can step up to fill the middle, we get salvagable DB play, we could be solid. We have the Ends to play the 3-4 (KLM and The Wicked Witch of the Oregonian West). Now, Diaco's scheme with elite speed and talent at ND could be new. He could have the hard-on for blitzing that Tenuta had. He could enjoy man/zone combos that Corwin did. I don't freaking know. But right now, how about you stop jumping to freaking conclusions before a single down has been played, before a single rep has been practiced.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SKYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! THE SKYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S FALLLLLLLLLLLINGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!
