Just curious about others thoughts on this subect. Let me preface something by stating that I don't really care too much that were aren't ranked yet, and don't normally watch the polls every week.

I'm just astounded that Pitt entered the Top 25 this week after beating S. Florida. This is a team that got beat by a MAC school earlier this year. Is last year's record keeping us from gaining respect in the polls? Is there a website to see how each coach/voter voted?

I think a Top 25 ranking is deserved. I sure hope we show up on Saturday vs UNC and put the wood to them on the road.

I do not believe we deserve a ranking just yet. We have handled our business at home against mediocre competition, and laid an egg against the only top-25 competition we have played so far. I believe there are teams in the top-25 that don't deserve to be there now (VANDERBILT), but I don't think we have any claim to jumping any of those teams.

I do believe we should be there if we beat North Carolina this week, and that is a big IF.
Going to be quite an atmosphere next Satuday in Chapel Hill.

Well there are two, 2 loss teams in the Top25 which is ridiculous at this stage of the season. 5 games in, and you've lost 2... While I think we might have been ranked had the score been more in our favour this weekend, we are still not garnering any respect in the polls.
Some media types are taking notice however noting Clausens 2 straight stellar games, and the 28-21 score wasn't indicative of the game.

Did you notice that Vandy beat Auburn?? I think they deserve it.

Anyhow, did you ever think:
1. That Notre Dame would play a football game AT North Carolina
2. That NC would ever be ranked ahead of ND in anything besides basketball.

Yeah, they aren't a powerhouse year in and year out, but they've had some really good seasons at times. Plus, you can't forget they produced one of the best, if not the best, linebackers ever to play football.

Auburn is one of the most overrated teams in the country this year. 3-2 against Miss State, 14-12 against an awful Tennessee team, with 7 of those points being gift-wrapped by Johnathan Crompton. That win by Vandy is more impressive in theory than reality. Their 'signature' win at this point seems to be a 6 point W at Ole Miss. Vandy is having a nice season, but is overranked.

one of my closest teacher friends is a ND fan too and he swears we should be ranked... I don't think we deserve it yet, no way.

we beat UNC under any circumstance this weekend and yes, we'd better be ranked, if any top 25 teams fall

but let's face it, UNC is young and talented like us and they are at home... we have a long way to go before we can assume a win and talk top 25 for real

how do you keep a 4-1 irish team out of the top 25 and put a 4-1 pitt team in? they suck i cant wait to blow them out and shut mark may's fat mouth. they beat south fl big deal. its notre dame hatred and its so blatantly obvious.

we win this week and were definately in, and if pitt can stay unscathed until they roll into to town that would be another good win.

I think we win our next few games heading to LA and roll in there with a top 15 ranking.

But lets just beat nc first, they're gonna be tough.

I'm happy that we have the opportunity to even *sniff* the rankings. A win at UNC should put us in the tail end of the top 25.

I hadn't looked into the ranking until just a few minutes ago. Now I see that Ball St. is ranked at 25? Okay, they're 6-0 good for them. But I would love to see ND get a crack at Ball State.

I'm not real big into the polls but I suppose they are a measure of excellence, albeit a subjective measure. The reality is that our 2-1 start wasn't very impressive but the last two games, and subsequent 4-1 record, have been impressive. Our schedule may be weaker but the first 5 games have been against opponents that we play year in and year out so what's the difference b/t this year and other years?

Interesting Note: This is the first time we have ever been 4-1 and unranked.

It would be great if they didn't even start ranking until week 5 or 6. It's probably not happening this year, but often a team gets screwed because they started off the season ranked lower and they just can't make up the difference between themselves and 2 other teams. I know teams have the chance to leapfrog other teams due to quality of the win, but that doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it's just too random.

Besides Pitt...I do not see anyone in the top 25 that we could beat...honestly! Ball State has a lot of talent this year and I would NOT want to play them!

i dont know about all that, i think we could beat ball state, wake forest, vandy, vt, pitt, unc, and honestly i think we could beat msu if given another shot but we already blew that one.

we'll jump into the polls next sunday if we get the W on saturday. its gonna be a great game.
