I laughed when I saw this on the news. This is as far fetched as the U.S. acquiring Greenland or Canada. It would take the general assemblies of both states as well as congress to vote in agreement to make that happen.

What the governor of Illinois didn't mention is this was started by a group of counties in southern Illinois that approached Indiana about becoming part of Indiana. They are also looking to become a separate state, but that seems like an even bigger reach.

Yeah, they want to become part of Idaho. I don't know how serious they were, but the article I linked shows the Illinois counties might be serious as most of them have already started some type of process within their counties.

The people of southern Illinois have no voice. Same as eastern Oregon. When you have a whole region that are isolated like this, they should be able to move.

The fact he even had to be asked about it just shows you what a stupid timeline we're living in. It really is the dumbest of times.

57 years old and he's been in government since getting his MA at Dayton. Mind boggling that he wants government out of people's lives when working in government is the only life he's ever known in his adult life. Over 30 years of government jobs.

So government is good for him but bad for everyone else and everything else otherwise.

Clearly a sarcastic ploy meant to criticize state right abortion policies. note: filed by a democrat senator

His previous bills include one to increase the noneconomic damages limitation other than medical malpractice, to adopt guidelines for tasers, and to revise the term "sex offense" to include a conviction of incest.

34 and just got elected last year. He's stepping out a bit.

Guidelines for tasers? Come on, man. We carry them two at a time in Chicago. I have a mini one on my ankle FFS.

I'm glad he did this. Enough time has passed.

But people will lose faith in our institutions! What kind of short bus reasoning is that?

No shit - the institutions that murdered a sitting president (and likely MLK and RFK?)
  1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.
Now swap out alcohol for federal government. Trump red pilled a lot of folks, this will put that on steroids.

On June 19, 2020, and June 20, 2020, WILLIAMS threatened and used force against patients and staff members at a reproductive health center located in lower Manhattan (the “Health Center”) and blocked patients and staff members from accessing the Health Center. In one instance, and as captured on video, WILLIAMS pressed her body against the door of the Health Center’s patient entrance and refused to move, preventing a Health Center volunteer from entering the Health Center. As a Health Center staff member (“Victim-1”) attempted to open the door for the volunteer, WILLIAMS purposefully leaned against the door, crushing Victim-1’s hand. Victim-1 yelled, “She’s crushing my hand,” but WILLIAMS remained against the door, trapping Victim-1’s hand and injuring it.

"Praying"?

I don't know about 41 months in prison for this or for praying, and I'm glad she's out either way TBH, but the facts of the case aren't lining up.

Seems 3-6 months suspended with probation would have been more appropriate.

So a bunch of Chinese dudes with reportedly minimal resources developed a better AI model than Google, Microsoft, META, Amazon and Open Ai all of whom have burned tens of billions of dollars on developing their models?

That’s kinda crazy.

Yeah this could get pretty interesting pretty fast. It's not like all the big dogs can't copy the open source hack quickly needing 1/10th the computing power to do the same work. Should be bigly bullish for AI adopters pushing massive productivity gains - potentially massive deflationary effects on a wide range of industries. New industrial revolution.

Is there a reason big tech can't us open source stuff as a starting point?

For me it shows how ridiculous these large Silicon Valley tech firms and their CEO’s have become.

They’ve been kinda blindly throwing around huge sums of money for about a decade now and hyping up all kinds of shit that was supposed to revolutionize the world and either completely crashed and burned or failed to live up to the hype, with those robo scooters, block chain and the meta verse being a couple examples.

Meanwhile if the reporting is accurate a small group of Chinese engineers one upped them with limited resources.

Also, if you need less computing power why the rush to build all those facilities in Texas?

Not really if you look at the history of software development. So many of these applications are developed by individuals then bought by companies like MS, Google, etc. Google was developed by a couple of students as was Facebook. Windows by Gates. Most of the staff at these tech companies aren't at the same creative and technical level as the ones that originally developed it.

I agree with you and I think we’re saying basically the same thing.

The big tech firms in the US have become bloated monopolies that are hindering creativity.
