Pehaps silly, but really need some advice on boots.

I haven't bought cowboy boots in 15 years, so totally ignorant to today's trends/styles. I'll likely be buying two pair.

1) simple leather (likely around $200-$300) for casual wearing once or twice a week, and
2) Not too flashy, but something not cow related (likely $300-$600) for a few trips a year to the country bar or concert.

Any adivice you can give me on the following would be appreciated. I'm pretty conservative, so nothing crazy.

1. Brand - Luccese, Tony Lama, Boulet, Dan Post are the one's I'm a bit familiar with. Any new ones out there? Which are popular today?

2. Heel - I have no clue what's in these days. Help

3. Toe - again, no clue....

4. Material - I've had snake and ostrich in the past. Thinking about gator or caiman this time. What is in now? What's the easiest to maintain?

Bonus - anyone know of a good custom boot maker? Going gator hunting later this spring, and would love catch my own boots.

I don't do pointed tipped boots.
My favorite pair I have are a pair of Frye 12R's.
Riding boots...not really cowboy boots.
And they are simple leather. But a quality product.

Also...ignore what's in fashion.
Wear what you like and what's comfortable!

That's what I was thinking, but don't want to look like a dick weed either on trips to TX :)

My 12Rs are $250 new I think
Harness boots.
Very classy and simple
Timeless style
and actually IN STYLE now. My cousin (wealthy single female chiropractor) has 12Rs as well as another cousin who works in advertising in Manhattan.

Harness boots don't go out of style. Ever.

I've had a pair of Double H's for a few years that I love. I think Double H's are a good blend of rugged/fancy boots (if that makes sense). You can probably get a really good pair for under $200.

I just got a pair of Ariats at Christmas. Extremely comfortable and look good. You can get those pretty cheap.

If you're looking for a pair to wear with pressed, creased Wranglers, I can't really help you there. Haha! I wear boots the majority of the time when I go out at night...and both of these that I have are good for that. I think the 2 extremes for boots (just off the top of my head and to put it in the vernacular) are: 1)Goat roperish and 2)Urban cowboyish. I don't like either of those...but somewhere in the middle.

Alamo is right-- just get what you like and what you want. I wouldn't worry about what's "in." Besides, when it comes to "boot fashion" strange bedfellows can be found-- a hardcore redneck may be wearing something similar to some total emo, hipster, or yuppie douchebag. Just go with what you (or your wife, girlfriend, random hot chick) thinks looks good.

Of his harness boots, or of his wealthy single female cousin?

Cause I know which one I'd rather see!

If you're a single female and interested in a civil union she might be interested.

No pressed wranglers for me LOL. Mostly casual with any old jeans on Fridays at work, a few trips a year to TX, an occasion trip to a country bar, and oh, gotta look good at the Jason Aldean/Luke Bryan/Jake Owen concert this spring at Sanford (UGA) staduim :).

Anyone ever do gator or caiman? If so, and issues. I had good luck with ostrich 15 years ago, but don't think I'm going back in that direction.

The first and only pair of cowboy boots I had was in second grade when I thought they were cool. I wore them with an Oakland Raiders jacket. Country and thug all at once.
