Who cares? Pete Carroll leaving for the NFL would shake up the entire landscape of College Football. Not to mention the fact, our biggest rival (both on the field and in the recruiting world) would be without a head coach. No head coach with 3 weeks until National Signing day would be a nightmare....

If the NCAA is truly going to dig deeper and actually do something about the recruiting violations in football as they did with their basketball program, Carroll moving to the NFL makes complete sense. I've never been a fan of Carroll. He has had some amazing teams at USC, but I wouldn't be surprised if he jumped ship before it sinks.

I just saw this on ESPN as well! I kept wondering at first "Why now? Why this job?" Then the answer came: It sounds like he may be able to swing a GM/HC position - which I believe is his dream. He knows the importance of being able to choose his players... Unfortunately, it didn't really work when Holmgren left GB to do the same thing... in the same city.

I'm surprised still. Maybe he's thinking USC would still be reloading a bit next year, and this is the perfect time.

It would make me very happy, especially regarding recruiting. However, a small part of me wants Kelly to have his fair shot at Pete when both have stacked teams...

Silly, silly rumors.

If it happened, I'd crap my pants. Too bad I'm not four years old.

I don't know why, maybe it is a pride thing. Actually it is a pride thing, but I don't want him leaving that school until we beat him. Beat him to a pulp, have him question his faith, start a slide where they lose to Washington St as well, and then at the end of the season it comes out that he was Reggie Bush's agent while also having an affair with him as a student.

Then he can leave.

I think he will take the Seattle job.
This would be big for us cause I think we can get a couple of the recruits that are currently committed to USC.
I would like to see him stay at USC so we can kick the crap outta him but would not be saddened one bit by him leaving.

I would be sad. My dream is to beat them on the last game of the seaon and go to the NC and beat the shit out of urban for the title. Now both could be gone

McKnight jumped off that ship today as well

If he did this now, this close to signing day, after everything that university has given him (and yes, I know he gave them a lot too, but it wasn't like he was Knute Rockne when they hired him), that's just terrible on his part. Its fine for him to want to try his hand in the NFL again, I don't begrudge him that. But he should have announced his "retirement" in early December then so the team could move on his replacement a long time ago, and he could wait for a job offer.

And when you factor in the fact that the team is coming off its first "down" year since Pete's first year there probably, that makes it worse. To leave that program now, in the shape its in at the moment, really is a strike imo. I'd love to see it, but it just lowers what little respect I had for Carroll in terms of his off-the-field behavior.

I told you he'd be NFL bound in a year or 2.

yeah ditto! I want to beat HIM not just USC. If we beat USC this year it'll be "oh well of course ND beat USC..they don't have pete" so it takes away our glory.
Maybe thats why hes leaving. He knows we now with Kelly have a very good chance to beat him and he wants out before that happens. I don't think USC under Pete has ever been beat by ND is that true?
so...thats why hes leaving lol.

This would be huge for our recruiting class in my opinion. A number of guys would de-commit from USC, and others considering both of us would probably now lean our way. Gotta think about Kyle Prater, Seantrel Henderson, I know he's considering SC. I mean if we could land one of those. This could be a huge development, I hear this is going to happen. Also hearing he is trying to get offensive coordinator to come to Seattle with him. I mean I'd love to beat Pete, but again you know him leaving might not be a bad thing.

I agree. I prefer beating the best out there instead of hoping they leave so we can get back to winning football games. Eff you Carroll and your cheating Trojans...stick around, you're gonna get lit up like a Christmas tree. Maybe not next season, but soon. The Irish will be back to slap the taste out of USC's mouth like they used to. That all aside, I highly doubt he'd leave USC for any job. Why would he? He gets paid very well and is treated like a king. The only thing I could see leading to him heading to Seattle would be if any real heat came down from the NCAA on these investigations. But, it seems the NCAA could care less about hurrying that process along (see: how long it's been looking into the Reggie Bush fiasco).

I hope you are jokinh... The guy has won a ton of pac 10 titles and 2 national championships. I highly doubt he is leaving SC because he doesnt want to lose to Notre Dame, come on now.

Now if you say he is leaving before the NCAA puts the hammer down on USC, maybe you are on to something.

Also we beat USC in Pete's first year....

Doesn't his nave pop up every year for some vacant NFL job? It was Miami just a couple of years ago. Unless he has heard that the NCAA is finally going to do something. Maybe Mike Garrett is going to throw him under the bus.

The Poodle leaving would be great, kind of like Xmas in January. Hope he leaves now so we can capitalize on the mass exodus.

I don’t care who is coaching USC, a win is a win over those pukes. Now what is interesting is if this changes the minds of the NCAA to move forward with their investigation and/or sanctions if he leaves. Kick’m when their down I always say!!!
