BYU kick returner lost fingertip against Notre Dame
Associated Press

PROVO, Utah -- Brigham Young kick returner Breyon Jones lost a fingertip during a game last week at Notre Dame.

Coach Bronco Mendenhall said Wednesday that Jones may have gotten the finger crunched between two helmets in the Fighting Irish's 49-23 win Saturday.

"I don't know which finger, but about three-quarters of the nail and up is gone. They closed that and sewed it together after the game," Mendenhall said.

Jones is the Cougars' top kickoff returner with 13 for 303 yards -- an average of 23.3 per kick. Jones didn't practice Tuesday, but Mendenhall said he expected Jones to be ready to play Saturday against Air Force.

"I just asked him if he could catch it and he said he could, so he'll be back there," Mendenhall said.

If it had happened a week earlier against Reggie Bush, I'd have been a lot happier (I'm only half kidding, I just don't know which half).

Seriously, though, that's just rough stuff man. Gotta feel for the guy.

South Bend, IN - From Wire Reports
-- After the BYU/ND football game, Notre Dame Stadium personnel performed an extensive search of the football field looking for Brigham Young kick returner, Breyon Jones, lost fingertip. According to John Heisler, ND Sports Information Director, the missing digit was not found. "The grounds crew searched the scene of the tragedy, inch by inch. All they found", said Heiser, "were 4 hardly used BYU athletic supporters".

BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall tersely responded, "NO COMMENT" when asked by a reporter if the trainers would tape the jocks on the BYU defensive backs for their next game.
