Kinda shocked Va Tech is on the list. USC is on the fringe, no votes for ND

Oregon is certainly the best team in the country at this point but I don't know if they can run the table through a balanced Pac 10 schedule.

Also, it bothers me that Alabama losses to South Carolina (who also had one loss at the time) yet stays ahead of them in the polls and then Ohio State losses to Wisconsin and drops 3 more spots. The polls are very inconsistent this year all the way around.

It will be interesting to see if the BCS rankings fix that.

Watch Alabama--if they win several more they'll creep back in. That's just like LSU the other year--these guys just think that South Carolina was an accident to be ignored. The poll people will NOT deny their "gut" on some teams no matter that they're supposed to honor body-of-work. To me, it stinks.

The irony of a ND fan saying this is breathtaking ;)

SC had a legitimate shot until Kentucky came. Alabama still can do it if they win the SECCG.

The new Harris Poll came out today, and the following teams received votes:

Hawaii, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Baylor, East Carolina, San Diego State, Southern Miss, Washington, Purdue (!?!).

Notre Dame didn't get ONE VOTE. All these teams did. Purdue? Seriously? Notre Dame beat them and they lost to Toledo! San Diego State? Southern Miss? I thought the polls favored ND!

It's the record only. Lost to Boise, James Madison, nearly lost to ECU, played a horribly sloppy game against Boston College.

That is very debatable. They have a terrible defense that has the potential to lose them a game or two. The good thing for Oregon is that their offense is so damn explosive that they can literally outscore any team in the country.

I agree about Alabama. If they catch a few breaks, they could certainly take the SEC and possibly sneak into the NCG.

Should Ohio State be ahead of Stanford?

IMO, yes.

Stanford blew a 21-3 lead against Oregon and then proceeded to get shut out in the second half. And then they beat a soft USC team on a game-winning field goal.

Ohio State nearly came back against Wisconsin after being down 21-0. They were very close to taking that game.

Purdue is baffling, but I really don't have an issue with most of the other teams.

I still think that Boise State is the best football team in the country. They're going to get their shot in this decade. It could be this year.

Their offense is better than their defense is bad. Every team in the country has several issues and Oregon has the least. You can pick at their defense but you can pick multiple things out on other teams. Oregon's offense and special teams are among the best in the country. I'm not saying they wont lose a game but they're very good right now.

Alabama will certainly creep back up if they win out because they play two teams currently ranked above them and the potential for an SEC championship. Alabama will be in the mix before the year is done.

Purdue doesn't make much sense, but they did beat Northwestern. (By the way: Northwestern v Michigan State is a bigger game than most people realize).

Oregon's offense isn't among the best: it's the most impressive thing I've ever seen in football. The team lost their starting QB and they're still putting up 60 points a game.

However, what would you say are Boise State's issues as a team? I wouldn't rate them #1 right now, but I do think they're the most well-rounded team in the NCAA right now.

To Anchorman: Notre Dame fans don't come out of a cloning machine. My position on body-of-work season-long is consistent within my own way of rating teams---i.e. I don't believe in forgetting losses just because of some eye-test or bias. That goes for my favorite teams as any others. Whatever your point was in smearing a heterogeneity together and laying the rotten fruit at my door smacks of a cheap personal shot at me. Not appreciated....

Boise State has hardly any holes on the field but their BCS problem is off the field. It may not be fair but thats the way it is. The toughest part of a 12-13 game season is coming out every week and being consistently good. To me, Boise State doesn't have to do that because of their weak schedule. They don't have to show up and fire on all cylinders to get a win. Just my opinion.
