nice job, young man. I have one piece of, perhaps counterintuitive, advice: Always do more than you're asked to do [within the context of the work, of course], and at a higher level of competence than expected. Learn the wider dimensions of the work/business and this will help do this. This policy seems foolish to many, but I found that by doing so, I was usually the person that people greeted with a smile, and tended to give a little slack to once in a while. It was nice to be thought of as someone who "brought something to the table" rather than just occupied a seat...and it was nice to be thought of as being somewhat indispensable.
Along those lines: My 8th grade coach gave me some advice on making my high school team that I used my entire athletic career and I still take with me this day in the work force. He said to work so hard and to make myself so indispensable that the coach couldn't afford to not have me on the court/field at all times. Phork calls it brown-nosing LOL, but it's more of just doing whatever it took to forge forward and get ahead. Every coach I had noticed it, and every boss I've had notices it. If you're good at what you do and you work your *** off, you will be successful no matter what you do.
And throwing in a smile once in a while never hurts!
